My dad just picked up a set of the 3rd Gen Off-Road wheels from a TW member and is trying to upgrade from his stock SR steel wheels. The $tealership advised they couldn't/wouldn't flip/reuse the steel TPMS sensors and wanted him to pay nearly $600 for new alloy sensors and to have them installed/programmed and the tires mount/balanced.

His local tire shop said they would "try" to install the old sensors but said from talking over the phone that they weren't sure exactly what he meant by "flipping" the old TPMS 180 degrees (as I had told him I had read numerous posts on here stating it is possible).

Being that I have only read it and I did not know how to tell him to explain it to the tire shop. Anyone have some additional insight/info on this?

You are just rotating how they sit within inside the rim, you will just have to remember when you get new tires later on to unscrew them and push them in the wheel before dismounting the tire. I just bought a 17' tundra and upgraded from the stock steel wheels to the trd alloys and I flipped my TPMS. You will need the tpms mount kit for the alloy wheels when you do this though as its different then the steel wheels.

So I asked the guy if he could do this on my F5 SCS wheels he said he couldn’t unscrew them before dismounting them because my oem sensors were all one piece. Is that BS?upload_2021-9-8_13-19-59.jpg
