Guy needed to secure his high end bike when he stopped at rest areas to poop. The posts were priceless.

Replacing the OEM bolt might be hard. Looks like it's an oddball M11, see the post below. No M11 on McMaster or Fastenal. As others have suggested, Red Loctite, Drop a weld bead in there or get a ball bearing close to the size of the Torx and hammer it in. You could probably make Bed stiffeners work too.

You could also get a Kryptonite or similar anchor point, make a metal backing plate and mount it to the bedside with security hardware.

The dude kept dumping the gas can on the camp fire every time he posted, either a rare talent for trolling or a terrifying display of being absolute clueless. :notsure:
    (I'm leaning toward the latter.)

Either way it was some hilarious reading.

Get someone to tack weld the fastener to the female end.

A simple but effective way could be to cover the fastener with a separate piece of metal with a slot in it before attaching your padlock to the tie down. Something like this

Speaking of dumping... didn't he also have a thread about pooping in the truck bed??

It might have been part of the same thread, he didn't want to leave his bikes and seemed to be unusually concerned about pooping on trips.

Secure strap? Nah, they'll steal the tie down.

Secure tie down? Nah, they'll unbolt the bed.

Secure bed bed? Nah, they'll steal the truck.

Solution - bring truck into the hotel room with you. Chain hotel room to Earth's core.

Chain won't hold it. We've been over that. Angle grinder for the win (loss?).

This is a great simple solution to add a bit more security. Thanks!

No money, all went to truck...
There's no sense in worrying about that bolt. If someone is going to steal your bike they'll cut whatever chain/cable is holding it down.

    Exactly what I was thinking...
What kind of bike thief is going to be carrying a ratchet and torx, and not a bolt cutter?
