I have an Icon AAL in the rear that's supposed to be 1" to 1.5" of lift. Does anyone have Sumo springs on a similar set up? I'm going to have an RTT on the bed this summer and do some light towing, but I'm not sure Sumo springs are worth it if they aren't close enough to the frame. Any thoughts?

Just put on my Headstrong Progressive AAL this past weekend... Have had the SumoSprings for about 6 months. Here's a pic of the gap... Probably close to 1/2".

Interesting. How far do the sumo springs compress under load? Maybe going with the extra firm spring would help?

I have the sumos on the standard OR suspension, they compress a good inch loaded up with 800 #s in the bed.

The harder sumo springs won't sit any higher, and they will make your ride too stiff if they do contact the frame.

Front hitch, 5100's, 885's, Snugtop XV, Slimline II, Sumos, bed platform, AAL, interior LED lights in cab and bed, exterior camp/backup LED's, Rigid DOT Fogs and D2 Pro Spots, Mega Ultra +130 bulbs, heavy-duty fog light, spot light, and low beam wiring harness, Weathertech mats, Re-routed dif breather and A/C drip line, dash cam, front and side cameras, anytime rear camera and nav, Blue Seas fused bus bars to cab and bed, heavy-duty bus bar w/Anderson quick disconnects under the hood for powering winch, solar, air compressor, and other accessories.
I will be adding about 250 - 300# of weight over my bed (shell, rack, cargo). Icon support told me that their progressive AAL was designed for ride comfort, not for carrying weight. He suggested I get a full leaf pack.

To go with my 5100's, I will instead install SumoSprings since they were designed for carrying extra weight and towing (not to mention, way cheaper!). From the manufacturer: "SumoSprings® are ..... designed to enhance load carrying ability, stabilize sway, and improve overall driver control and ride comfort ..... providing a smooth and progressive spring rate." This seems consistent with the reviews I have read from owners of SumoSprings.

If you decide to go with the SumoSprings, I got mine for $191 otd from SDtrucksprings. I had them beat the price I got from Jet.com ($210 - 15% promo code + tax).

@Nail do the sumo springs touch the frame without any weight in the bed? Someone posted in another thread that they got 5/8 lift from the sumo springs on stock OR suspension.

That sounds about right, although I never measured it. The sumo springs always touch the frame on the stock suspension, even with no load.

Unloaded they make your ass end noticeably stiffer, but if you carry weight in the bed most of the time they are a nice alternative to air bags.

I want hydrolic bump stops. :benchpress:

Here she is under full load, to give you an idea of how the sumo springs sit loaded. This is a completely stock OR except the sumo springs and about 900 #s.20170316_185531.jpg

Thanks. I have an ARE topper and usually two mtn bikes with me at all times. I really want them for when I tow my camper.
