I’m really considering it, a local shop does it and it starts out with a 2 year coating and goes all the way up to I think 12 years. The 2 year job is $300 and goes up, way up from there. Anyways, I’m willing to risk $300 unless y’all tell me I’m crazy or that it could damage my paint somehow. Thanks!

I've seen a few folks on here who have had them applied. I'd check the detailing forum. $300 for a coating and 2 year coverage seems incredibly low priced to me. What product are they using and what does the 2 years cover?

I'm going to start on my 4Runner this weekend. Will do the hood and see how it goes. I will do it in sections since it is a time consuming process. I am going to use Car Pro cquartz uk

I have ceramic coating on my 2nd Gen which is painted 202 Black. The guy clay-barred it, buffed out the swirls, applied the ceramic and waxed it. Best money I've spent on a vehicle in a long time. 3 year guaranty on mine, he told me I should give it a high quality wax once a year.
    Cheers, Jeff

Didn’t know about that forum lol as I’m always in the 3rd gen section but will check it out. The guy just called me after I did an web inquiry and the $300 is a Jan special and that only includes the painted area, no rims or anything. As for the product and coverage I have to find out when he sends me all the info. The top 12 year job is up around $2500-3k and that’s way out of my price range.

I only have about 3k miles on it so he said there wouldn’t be as much prep work as on an older one but that’s something I will ask.

I asked him the same thing..."guaranty" might not be the right word. He said he would repair any crazing or hazing inside that time frame. No go for normal wear and tear though, i.e. rock chips and whatever. He did stress regular waxing, especially on the horizontal surfaces. Was done 7 months ago and the finish is still fantastic...it also washes really easily.

I put ceramic on my paint the week i purchased it! Its amazing and works very well. Im also a clean freak and absolutely love to care for my paint so either way my paint is gonna stay fresh for the next 15 year's. ceramic coat or not id suggest never going though a automated carwash....your paint will never be the same after just one go around

I look forward to having the coating, I'm hopeful that it will result in less washing. The less you have to wash your truck the better imo. It will keep the paint in better condition although it sounds contrarian.

I had my truck ceramic coated last year and the paint still looks awesome . I wash it weekly at a high end drive thru car wash without using the brushes . They also use chemicals designed for ceramic coating

Mind you this is 16 yr old OEM paint and the shine is deep

not trying to start a huge debate, but any detailer that installs ceramic coating AND tells you to wax your vehicle, does not know what he is doing. once the coating is installed, there is nothing else that needs to be applied except for coating restorer about every 6 months. no way you should ever have to wax it. in fact, once the coating is installed you have to use a hydrophobic car wash soap when you wash, you CANNOT use one that has wax or paint enhancers. unless they aren't using a true coating and instead using some BS like F11 or some other crap products that are out there. coatings have their place in the market for sure. I have used them on other cars in the past, with good results, as well as bad results. now, I will not even consider them.

that is some SERIOUS paint correction. being in Texas I imagine you paid a pretty penny if you had that fixed and any kind of ceramic coating applied. it looks good. I enjoy detailing still, even though I don't do it for a living anymore. black is always an awesome color once you are done with a proper detail job.

I mean I used a spray on ceramic coating on both my taco and the wife’s Mazda 3. As long as you do the required prep work before applying the coating. You can do it yourself for $30 and a couple hours of time. The more coats you apply and better the prep work the longer it will last. Washing is 10 times easier and the shine is great.

I put a ceramic coating on my truck 2 weeks after I purchased it.I run a detailing business on the side. As Jimmy posted above, Waxing after ceramic coating is not ideal. Ceramic coating bonds to your clear coat which is why prep work is crucial. It doesn't mean you won't have to wash as often, just means it will be easier. Using a foam cannon and proper soap will help eliminate the need to "scrub" your paint as much. Using a two bucket wash method is the only way to wash and not create swirls.
