Anyone have the name of this part?

Need to replace the rusted nut and bolt to stop the rattle. It’s on the exhaust directly below the drivers seat

 

Break the nut off and get a m6x1.0 bolt and nut.
Use a sharp chisel and hammer and knock it off.

 

Clamshell heat cover for the catalytic converter

 

A quick and painless fix would be a couple of large worm gear clamps (Home Depot sells 4” ones) and clamp the whole thing down.
After owning a Subaru for about 11 years I had a half dozen clamps on the exhaust in various places. Subaru has to be one of the most notorious cars for heat shield rattles.

 

I like this idea as I’ve used it before on my Tacoma and wife’s car to secure the cat heat shield. You can also use stainless steel zip ties.

All over that m6x1 tomorrow. Much appreciated and love the creativity on the clamps and zip ties. If I can’t get the nut/bolt replaced cleanly that’s a good backup.

 

Use a bit of finesse! A variable speed Dremel tool with an abrasive cut-off wheel will split that rusted nut in short order. Looks like there's a spacer in that assembly too to keep the clam shell heat shield properly aligned.

 

A stainless steel pipe clamp will last a bit longer than your memory of putting it on.

Mine is rattling too. I've tripped clamps, tends to stop for a few weeks then the rattle comes back!

 

Definitely did this on my dd Outback. Worked great!
