Have you got a tech school with an auto body program nearby? Some of them will take in vehicles for the students to learn on- they have an instructor there watching over them so supposedly it's not bad, it can just take a while to get it done. I've also heard of folks doing their own prep and taking the paint they wanted to one of the cheaper places and having them shoot it in their paint booth. Unless you get a recommendation from someone you trust I'd be real leery of any of those places though.

I had my last truck (96 Dodge Ram Cummins) painted at a local vocational technical high school in 2011. It cost $1250.00 and they used PPG Concept paint (good stuff). Truck was too big for me to squirt in my garage. Came out very nice.

I've also painted a couple of cars and a truck cap. Auto paint is very expensive and it'll run every bit of a grand for a gallon of quality primer, sealer, paint, and clear. Less expensive paint is available in standard colors that are not mixed to the code. Kirker paint is one. The color will be somewhat close but nowhere near a match. Not a big deal painting an entire vehicle.

The cap I painted this past summer for a fellow member using PPG single stage black along with a primer cost 275.00 (total) for a single quart of each and the cap used every bit.

You can get a decent paint job from a discount place, but like bajataco said there is a way to go about it. You have to check them out by looking at finished vehicles on their lot to get an idea of the quality of work. Hopefully they can at least lay down an even layer without runs and sags or really bad orange peel. You are usually better off doing your own prep work with that kind of place, sanding, and removing or taping off items you don't want painted.

Since prep is most of the job, you might just decide to squirt the paint on at that point. The harbor freight hvlp sprayer is good enough for a single paint job. It's not too tricky to spray auto paint if you practice a bit and watch some videos.

I had the hood /roof and fender flares painted for $1800 because of sun damage.
Later I had all 4 doors painted on my 2005 Speedway blue for another $1800.

That would be a cool vinyl color scheme why chose?
