That looks really good. I didn't know Metra had the textured dash kits.

I looked at the Metra site.. So does the black one comes smooth but the gray one is textured?

I got the KDC-x995 now too. I love it. I hooked it up with the mic in that same area. I don't feel like that cord is going to stay up there though. Did you secure yours so the cord won't come back out and hang down?

^well as of now I have a small piece of electrical tape holding it in place right where it starts to feed into the headliner. It's holding well so far. All I need yet is to buy the replacement kenwood factory USB dash mount. I broke mine :( and then I'll finally be finished. I bought a USB splitter so I can have one USB in my glove box for the iPod and one in the dash for my iPhone should I want to use it :)

Haha very cool. You'll be all set up then. I guess I should do something to secure my mic wire like that too.

I noticed I had an extra wiring harness that used to plug into the factory stereo. I think it may have been the tweeters.. Did you find something to plug it into?

Installed this in a first gen two weeks ago. A couple of notes. I installed a powered subwoofer and the RCA plugs hit something behind the radio. I had to get a set of right angle RCA plugs. This may not be the case for everyone and I couldn't have used the rt angles on all three sets of preouts. Luckily I was using just the subwoofer outs and it fit perfectly after using the RadioShack elbows. Stereo is great. I wanted bluetooth, ipod and customizable colors. I previously had an x994 and this one is much easier to use IMO.

I had a tight squeeze behind my stereo (in 2nd gen) with all the crimps going on and extra plugs for USB and AUX, but it all fit after fidgeting around in there.

I am still curious about the other group of wires that I wasn't able to plug into the stereo though. I don't know what to do with them since there isn't a slot in the stereo for them. They seem almost surely to be the tweeters. They were yellow and brown colored I think, identical thickness to the other speaker wires.

Why do you need to split your usb? I have mine running to the dash for my iPod and then just use bluetooth to play music from my iPhone. Sound volume is a little low playing music via BT, but it isn't bad.

Over all I have had mine for almost a year and I love it in my first Gen.

This model does not support streaming music via bluetooth.I just installed this unit in my 2002 Tacoma,so far I love the unit.Glare on the face unit is really BAD,hope some anti-glare film will help with this problem. Those factory speakers will be replaced soon.

I will second the GLARE issue. I tried some cheapo antiglare protection film. It didn't really help - so I am going to look for dedicated antiglare film. My wife indicated SPECK anti-glare works well on her iPad.

I think you must mean the X994 rather than the X995. The X995 came out this past March I believe. And the X994 is capable of BT streaming but the X995 isn't.

I bet you are right. I got mine last July.

The glare is still an issue, but I have been able to adjust the color and contrast (using negative as primary) to get it were I can see the display 98% of the time.

Let me know if someone find the perfect anti-glare solution for these.

Yeah so after a month of ownership the stereo is going back. I wasn't overly impressed with it to be honest. Though I did like the Bluetooth. I paid like 330 for it and figure I can find something I like cheaper. I'm thinking of maybe going with the x994. Basically the same except it doesn't have pandora or hd radio which I never really used either. Plus I can get the x994 for 199.00 from crutchfield refurbished. :)
