It will never be perfect, you'll have some shrinkage once they take it out of the mold plus the plastic and the metal will stretch at different rates when heated up...could be that there's no more "gap" (if you want to call it that) in the winter time

The gap may not have been there when you bought it but by stepping on it you have pressured it into coming apart slightly. Thats why the passenger side is not like that. So sadly I'm afraid its your problem now, only be able to argue it with the dealer before you picked it up.
You could glue it and clamp it, or just remove them entirely.

I love to use my mud flaps to rake the leaves out of the yard

there are a few really nice people on here willing to help and there are a few dumbasses who have nothing better to do but try to ridicule you and than play it off. Yes, the truck is for sale? you dont know why and you dont know why i am asking about running boards, so if you have a direct question, why dont you PM me and ask, instead of hiding like a coward behind the keyboard and showing off to people who you have never even met

    Stock for now
    Your truck looks awesome.
I have different running boards though maybe put some heat from a hair dryer to it?
    Just an idea. :)
Good luck either way with what happens.
