Got a call from the Dealer today. They said they checked the Trans again, Same codes showed up and told me the fluid level was not exactly where it should be even though they just topped it off a few days earlier to fix the no up shifting problem. I more or less told them I think their out of their minds.
I'm sure I'll be back there for a third time with the same problem. We'll see. Picking it up on Thursday.

I have a 2013 DCSB, how can I check the fluid level myself? With so many posts about it being low, it concerns me.

I think it has be checked at 113 deg. They use a laptop to check the level at the dealer. I have a warranty until 100 k and I'm at 53 k now. If it happens again they said they are out of options and will most likely have to put a new trans in. I hope that's true.

They also told me they are seeing a lot of 2013 with low fluid levels in the trans. I would definitely get it checked to be safe.

Well, I picked it up yesterday after the dealer said it was fine. Shifting problem happened again on the way to work today. Called Toyota and they said bring it back in and they will be putting a brand new transmission in it for me. Glad the warranty covers it !!!

Glad to hear Toyota is going to cover the transmission . I doubt they will tell you why the trans failed but if I had to guess , 50 k of driving around low on fluid will do that to a transmission , Eventually something has to give .

You're right, they wouldn't admit it was due to low fluid. All they say is They did everything they could to repair it and they'll just replace it.

Picked up my truck two weeks ago after dealer installed a new transmission. Today it did the same thing with the new trans. While driving it downshifted and won't up shift.
About two days ago, I took off from a stop and the truck felt like the rear end locked for a second or was binding. I was thinking axle wrap. (TSB on rear springs was never done if that matters ). After it downshifted today and couldn't up shift , The check engine light came on along with the traction control light.
I guess it's back to the dealer today.

I'm wondering if it's a problem with the traction control ?

    Still not fixed !!!
This make the 5th. time back at the dealer for the same transmission problem.
Downshifting from 5th. To 4th. And not being able to shift back into 5th.

1st. - found fluid to be low by one and a half quarts- filled and cleared codes
    P0776 & P2714

2nd. - cleared codes again & pressure tested and checked solenoids

3rd. - installed new transmission . Paperwork says replaced due to internal failure.

    Shifting problem returned

4th. - found corroded connector to trans - cleaned connector and cleared codes.

Shifted fine for a week and a half. Problem returned

Today, 5th. Time - dealer said they will replace the ECU and have me drive it, if the problem returns they will replace the entire wiring harness.

    When will it end ?

New to this form and to Tacomas. Bought my 1st Tacoma just a little over 2 weeks ago. 2013 Black TRD Sport V6 automatic 2WD less than 6k when purchased at Carmax.

I noticed a slight rough shift and slight rough feel. My family and friends thought I was being a picky new truck guy, looking for problems. No "new" vehicle I've owned had any rough transmission feeling. Although it was slight, something seemed off. At a stoplight, the truck would feel like it wanted to move forward for a second. 3rd gear had a more pronounced ship than the others.

The kicker was this Tuesday. I was coming off the interstate after getting around some very slow traffic. Went down the exit ramp and after coming to a stop I made my turn. The engine revved, but the truck did not move for a second. After that it took off slowly, and then drove normal.

I joined this forum right after buying my Taco, but due to work I only lurked occasionally...mainly looking for info on running boards bed covers etc. Tuesday night after the slip, I went to this forum and found this thread.

I took it back to CarMax the next day. I told them about Tacoma World and about this thread and how some 2013's appear to be shipping low on transmission fluid. They wasted no time and got it to a local Toyota dealer for diagnosis.

Turns out mine was low on transmission fluid and they also found damage. They ordered a new transmission for me, and I'll have it back in a week.

Thanks. Hope yours is solved too.

I hope that Toyota will from now on make sure their transmissions are full of fluid before they go out to customers.

Picked up my truck yesterday for the 5th. time. New computer and new wiring harness this time. Seems fine now but we'll see . Last time I had it for a week and a half before the shifting problems came back.
New Trans , Computer & Wiring Harness. I'm hoping this is the end of my trans problems.

Got mine back Wednesday. Since it had 5700 on it when I bought it, and there was some new doubt that CarMax changed the oil AND I hit 7300 miles...figured I needed to change the oil just to be safe.

The transmission feels fine and shifts fine. At my oil change shop ( friends of our family) they made sure to show me the transmission and you could visually tell it is brand spanking new. The only thing the mechanic pointed out, there was a very small amount of moisture in the upper right corner of the pan. He asked me when this was done. When I told him I just got it back, he said this could be residual fluid. he detected no drips or leaks. Told me to take it to a car wash to clean the underbelly and keep an eye on it. If it continues to look even slightly wet there take it back.

Installing my new used 14 OEM running boards bought from a Forum member ( thanks Jim!). We will have it on a lift and I'll be able to check it again.

Update: the 1st week with the new transmission no problems. Last weekend I felt something. The best way I can describe it, a minor slip after I put it in drive. Very minor, not like the one I experienced before the transmission was replaced. Then this week, I felt the transmission down shift twice as I was slowing down. Normally with an automatic trans I don't feel it downshift.

Everything I've experienced recently is minor, but I can't ignore it.

Today after a sales call the truck had a very minor slip after going into drive. I'm going back to CarMax in the morning. They may have me go right to the Toyota dealership. If this is a brand new transmission, why would it do this?

There have been no leaks. I've been checking daily.

If these transmissions are prefilled, I wonder if they just slapped it on and didn't double check the fluid level?
