I'm supremely jealous. I'm stuck making a truck payment and a college loan payment and trying to save up for a house.:annoyed:

Then you have a broke freezer therefore need the Tacoma to haul old fridge to scrap an get a new one. I like this logic.

That's what happen's when you take your fridge for granite.

My buddy has a 2016 WRX and I've got a 2016 Taco. He gets about the same gas mileage as me and has to fuel up premium. Also his insurance is more. If I could have both I would, but if I had to choose it'd still be a hard decision. I like being a truck guy, but I miss going stupid fast for fun.

    Looks familiar!

I've got both...well, sorta...'05 4Runner and a '17 WRX (one of the first 2017s in CT, bought over a year ago...31k on the odo already).

Honestly, I can't confidently say I'd buy the WRX again. It's a riot of a car...quick, handles great, steering feel is fantastic...but it's uncomfortable (something you can't understand on a simple test-drive...plus my surgically repaired spine doesn't help) and rough around the edges in a way I was hoping had been sorted out for this generation. That said, it's a blast to drive hard, it gets great MPG, has a ton of space for a car its size, and has held up pretty well so far. It's also fairly close to unstoppable in the winter.

The WRX has done everything I've asked of it and more. Its driving dynamics are so good that I've become a regular autocrosser. The car has seriously impressed me with how well it drives. More so with the WRX than with any other vehicle I've owned, I find myself making excuses to go places just to get a good drive in. But I really, genuinely don't know if I'd buy it again.

I'd buy the 4Runner again in a heartbeat. If I could only live with one for the rest of my life, it would probably be the Toyota.

Nrbeal12, in your original post you said, "I am 22 years old, and pretty big into modifying vehicles as well as hiking/biking/ dirt bikes etc." The deciding factor really needs to be what you want to get out of your next vehicle, and what you want to do with it. The WRX is plenty capable on a dirt road, especially with the right tires, so if your off-pavement shenanigans are limited to dirt roads and getting to trailheads, the WRX will suit you fine and you'll have a great time getting there. But if you want to go beyond the parking lot or want to keep it for 5+ years...buy the Toyota.

Now granite the fridge may work but the freezer lost all its marble.

22 years old have fun paying the premium on insurance on the wrx. They're good cars but if your into the outdoors and plan to go dirtbiking, camping ect how are you going to transport your gear and bike in the trunk of a car? I traded my 2014 XV Crosstrek for my 3rd gen trd OR and don't regret it one bit the Subaru burned too much oil and did 4 wheel bearings on that car in 140,000 miles

    A thing or two...
There is no more TRD SC. They stopped making them and sold the manufacturing rights to Magnuson. Magnuson and URD are the options for superchargers.

Go with the Toyota, first. I'm in the same boat as you (although 10 years older). I have car modifying in my blood, albeit with Fox Mustangs... I decided to do the Toyota first and when the time is right i'll get back into another Mustang and keep the truck as a DD.

Other factors to consider... what do your friends drive? Are you into car meet ups, racing, cruising, etc? If all your friends drive sports cars you probably don't want to be the only one not in the scene.

I have owned an 03 WRX, 12 legacy, 13 BRZ and a 15 STi . I love Subaru’s and have had generally good luck with them. I never had any real problems. They have good handling, decent quality, easy to mod and fun to drive in any weather condition. In terms of a good all-around car that’s fun but yet has a reasonable amount of practicality I don’t think you can beat the WRX. On the flip side you just can’t beat the utility of a truck. If you like being off road or hauling toys then it’s a smart choice. Before I owned a home I wanted a nice car and I didn’t really need a truck so it made sense for me at the time. I found once I owned a home I needed a truck and the Tacoma was a great fit for my needs, I still enjoy driving it but I can get stuff done with it and have some fun off road in the process, but its 2 different worlds.

Good point, but you can always grab a ride with someone if you want to. It's more important to buy something for what you yourself likes to do...if you're into wheeling, buy a 4x4, you can always ride shotgun and hang out at a car meetup. If you're an off-roader and buy a sports car, you'll be eliminating something you enjoy entirely from your life

The opposite is true, tho. You can also ride shotgun in someone else's Taco. Buttt, you can show up with the Taco at the car meet and help tow your buddy home when he breaks his drift rocket or get highcentered on a speedbump;)

Get the truck, drive it til it dies, all while saving up money for a car that is unreasonably fast.

Came here from my 2014 STI.

Wasn't quite prepared for how appalling of a driving experience it would be coming to the Tacoma, particularly in auto....

But I missed to wilderness too much for those feelings to linger very long.

MK5 GTI to a Tacoma. I miss the passing power and mpg of my gti but when it comes to work and play the tacoma gets my vote.

I bought an '06 STI new and kept it until last year. Bought my '08 DCLB TRD Sport new and still have it. Modded the hell out of both, love both vehicles, but if I could only have 1, it'd be the Tacoma. So much more versatile...
My advice... go for the Tacoma now, and wait for the next gen STI.
