Hey guys, im looking at getting my dad a Porsche with my mom. Has anyone here had experiences with them? How many miles they last?

We are looking at a 2000 911 Carrera 2wd with 80,000 miles. It has the factory aero kit. Looks to be in great condition. They are asking 17,000

I tried posting this on a Porsche forum but it isnt very active and I have not gotten any responses.

Thanks and hope someone can help out.

been there done that many years ago. Not much has changed......I learned the hard way, cars like Porches and BMWs are best left to those who lease them or worse, buy them new. No car is more of a money ppit than an old German car (or any exotic for that matter)

Your best bet is to find a nice used Corvette...Many more mechanics can work on them plus new and used parts are far less expensive and far more plentiful. There won't be unresponsive forums, in fact there a plenty of very active Corvette forums and a Corvette is always a Corvette no matter what year...

Porsches are decently reliable for what they are...as long as it's maintained properly. Maintenance though is pretty pricey, but that's what you get with a performance car.

Just get it checked out by a good porsche mechanic and they can also give you an idea what you'll be looking at paying out maintenance wise.

OP, seems like pretty high mileage, but :notsure:.

Here. 1987 911 Carrera Targa below...tasty:drool:. I knew a guy who had a silver one ('87 911 carrera targa...so cool). Anyway, Sloan has a 'choice' selection, imo.

Regarding maintenance: Find a certified Porsche mechanic in your area (likely certified on Audi/VW/Porsche, iirc).

The hardest part about owning a Porsche, is trying to sell it. My cousin had his for sale for over a year before he finally got rid of it. Not a very large market for used Porsche's. It was very fun to drive, however...
