I was looking at Tundras too, especially with them only being $3-$4k more than a new Taco! And part of me wonders if the 2016 Taco would have the power and better MPG now with the new power train. But I also can't help but wonder if they fixed some of my previous issues.

And the whole oil burner thing from vehicles built in 93 through 2006 shows a track record of that. I have no idea if Nissan is any better, but am I just buying more of the same with another Toyota? Not really interested in Ford, Dodge, etc, though the wife and I did stop at a dealer on Saturday while grocery shopping, and looked at the new F150's. Their Ecoboost V6 was interested. More power, better MPG than their V8. Hell, better combine MPG than my 18 with the taco. *sigh* I just don't know. I don't like the idea of putting 4 grand into a 9 year old truck that might fail in a year or two.

Nope. Cheapo TSC 5x10 Carry-On trailer. Hell, the paint was so bad I posted to Carry-On's facebook page and got a free spare tire and holder out of it.

Also, I kind like the looks of the XD. Especially in yellow. Maybe because it reminds me of the Tonka trucks I played with as a kid.

Some trailer brakes would definitely help if you tow that often. Even towing once a week that's a lot of wear on the brakes.

Tundra would be my first choice but the F150 would be a close 2nd.
I haven't heard good things about the Titan. But the cummins is a good engine so that should help.

Yeah, I'm really torn. :( My wife had an uncle/grandfather/something who swore by his F150's. I've never owned a domestic so I don't know.

I've been cheating on TW with a couple Titan forums trying to feel out issues they have. Seems like axle seals are a common thing, but covered my Nissan. One or two, other less common issues seem to be covered as well.

But it seems like the same boat as Toyota. New model, new engine, no history to work out bugs they find after production, so either way I'm gambling unless I buy a model that's already been in production for while.

It seems like some high grade, heavier duty, parts are used in the new XD. And you're right, Cummins has a solid reputation. I'm kind of concerned about this being a newly developed engine by them. Their first V8 from my understanding. From what I've read (being a diesel n00b), diesels are typically straight 6's, while this is reconfigured to be a V8 to be shorter, and thus a direct replacement fit and size wise for gas engines. So They engineered a new engine to fit where the gas equivalent would have gone. And the whole compressed graphite iron block composition is new to me. Basically new material, new engine design, first production model? What's the worst that could happen?

To me that might be a bit more questionable than a previous used, but new to tacoma, 3.5 Atkinson cycle. Cummins has engines pushing 300,000 or more miles so.... :notsure:

The Tundras I saw got even worse gas mileage, no tie down rails, no spray-on bedliner included. Can't remember about D-rings. I did like how the rear bumper on the new ones is 3 piece, so if you damage a corner you just replace that piece (and they're thicker steel now).

I see you've been doing your homework!
That's interesting on the new engine. I'm not up on diesels that much either so what I know is what little I've read or heard.
Realistically, you could buy any vehicle and have the best luck or the worst luck with it.

    Yup! ;)

And you're right. I mean, I can't be the only one with similar issues with the taco, but how many others have had zero issues?

So I'll probably weigh a few factors. How much I can get for trade, if we can pay off the pathfinder in full, if my wife gets some sort of steady income to help, how much the new trucks costs, and if I can justify getting the features I want.

A lot of that is going to come down to wife's income, and cost of a new truck. I think we can manage $40k before trade, and that's not much more than a well equipped taco these days apparently. If it starts creeping up in the 50's or 60's, I'm stuck for a while.

I only know of one legal place in NY and it's not really worth more than an hour and a half drive... I'd happily drive 4.5hrs to rausch creek instead. There's talk of a meet last weekend of January there

Agreed, that place sounds sick! I would be down for a spring meet up. I'll be making up for lost time on the slopes in January.

Alright man, I'll post up whatever I hear about. It would be cool to get some new guys to come out with us, it's a great time out there! I need sliders on the FJ badly but if some of you want to make it out in January I could be persuaded

Meh. More shit to move out of the way, and lots of idiot drivers around here. I used to keep wood pellets in the bed for weight, but I left my soft top off this summer and it's too cold to put it up now. Can't leave pellets in the bed as they get wet and don't work in the stove. I should get some sand, but I keep forgetting.

Only got about 5 inches here south of Syracuse prolly not going to get too much more. If I had a winch I'd hit some of the forest roads around here but rather not get stuck foolin around.
