Well I may be able, but I’m gone until early next week. Is the truck in a driveway or garage? That would be best.

Thanks guys for replying. I could put II inthe driveway or a garage on the weekends. I was initially going to replace because when I drive a full left turn I was getting noise but this was in a spot where my truck was going up and down a small curb an otherwise it was not flat. I later went out to a large flat lot and at full turn it was quiet aa could be. So I'm confused now about whether I can replace outer boot and clean and repack with grease. I wouldn't now by looking at the insides if the parts were still in good shape for a repack. I'm even confused about what cv to buy because overall conses is that Napa and AutoZone are crap. I've been looking for.oem and about the best I can so is 350.00 for part but that would be my choice to go with unless someone can recommend something else.

Lifted? That sounds more like a ball joint than a CV. When the CV goes it's a very consistent noise.

If you're free this Sunday morning come by my place in Chester for Taco Sunday, we'll take a look and figure it out. You can meet a few other local folks too.

Thanks Articelf, I'm not lifted and my lower ball joint is 3yrs and about 35000 miles because it was replaced with the new frame. I'm gonna google the sound a bad cv makes and see.if it's similar. I know my wife has some plans for me on Sunday but I might be able.to.make it. Much appreciated for the help.

I just listened to some audios of a bad cv axle and my doesn't sound anything like that. But there is the grease on my outer boot that must be coming from somewhere. The grease is black in color if that's a clue. I don't see any tears or holes in boot but it might be a pinhole that I can't see. I'll do the test for the lower ball joint tomorrow. Thanks guys

Black grease on the outside of a CV boot is almost certainly coming from inside the CV.

Take a look on the for-sale section here to see if anyone has some used ones for sale, otherwise look online for the salvage yards.
