I've been trying to find a winter tire in 255/80/17 or 255/85/16 for a few weeks. Doesn't' seem to exist. Biggest I can find is 255/70/16, which is 3in less diameter. Any links for some skinny 33" winter rated tires?

Fair enough. If you go into the Toyo ATIII thread, you'll see my comments about their winter performance so far, which is all positive, and on par with the Duratracs.

The previous Toyo ATII was pretty highly rated even in winter and not technically TPMSF rated and their best seller. So my thought process is when they come out with a brand new tire/design, in their most important category, they aren't going to f**k it up and make a worse tire than before.

I'll tend to go with new tech vs old tech when it comes to tires.

I do not do what you would consider true off-roading except for when I get to the black hills for some mild off-roading (very rare). Here in South Dakota we get a good mix of ever kind of snow (powdery, wet heavy, slush, melting and refreezing etc with some very cold temps.

If I had to guess it is probably 65% pavement 20% gravel roads and then 15% driving on frozen lakes for ice fishing and the fields etc for hunting.

I am considering the Ridge Grappler in the 255/80/17 to keep the tread width to 10.5" or less. I really liked the performance of the 265/70/17 but want a little taller tire. (thus the reason I am also looking at 285/70/17)

Thinking maybe I will just grab some cheap Grabber Arctic 265/70r17s to get me through this winter and decide in the spring. $135 per tire and can sell my 3 used Ridge Grapplers for around $200 Going to discount tire now to discuss the Grabber Arctics.

Well, I took a chance and purchased the LT 285/70/17 Toyo Open Country A/T III in C load.

Will get them installed next Tuesday. Hopefully I don't regret them. Have the CMC already scheduled just in case I need it.
