    Sounds good man.

Can non-service members get on Ft. Benning to 4-wheel now? Back a year or so ago before they locked the gates down, all you had to do was flash a photo ID and you could then easily get in and roam just about anywhere on base that didn't have a lock on it. Now that they have such a rigorous entry procedure is it still possible to get on base and roam?

On the way to Fryer DZ there is tons of trails. Hit me up if you want to get together and go wheeling sometime.

@thecoz Will do, man! I work in Ft. Mitchell so that's right behind me.

Also just a heads up to everyone, I found a pretty good public trail yesterday in north Columbus. Standing Boy Creek WMA is north of Green Island Hills and can be reached off of Old River Road. The state has done a pretty good job of keeping all of the roads brush-free and well maintained, but there are a few fun hills to play around on and a couple pull-off spots where you can cut a donut or two. It's nothing majorly aggressive, and even in a day after rain there wasn't anything on the trails I didn't feel comfortable tackling in 2WD as 95% of the trails are gravel. There were a couple of small mud holes and rutted hills off the side of the trails that someone with a 4WD could have some fun in. Altogether there's probably about 3-5 miles worth of trails. I dropped the auto down to 2nd gear and cruised around all of the open trails and burned a good 45 minutes of riding. Don't expect any hardcore mud riding or rock crawling, but it's a fun gravel trail to ride and is a nice break from all of the asphalt in the city. Just be mindful of the people hunting and it is state property.

For anyone interested, just take River Road north out of the city like you're headed towards Harris Co. About 3 miles outside of the city you'll come to a 4-way intersection with Bigger's Rd. on your right, and Old River Rd. on your left. Take the left onto Old River Road and travel west for about 3/4 of a mile. You'll see a gravel road that branches off to the left which is the entrance to the WMA. Here's the Google Maps location: CLICK HERE

Do you reach them from the back entrance to Benning on the Ft. Mitchell side? Isn't that back there where the Uchee Creek campground and stuff it? How well would a stock 4x4 TRDOR do on the trails?

Junction City, GA. CLICK HERE for a Google map link.

Just take Hwy. 80 east out of Columbus like you're headed towards Buena Vista. Pass through Buena Vista, then Geneva, your next town will be Junction City. Stay on the 4 lane and look for Old Maulk Rd. on your right. It'll be asphalt for about the first 1/2 mile before it turns to sandy dirt road. There are tons of great dirt roads to ride out that way, especially if you want to get a taste of off-roading in sand. Also a lot of good places for photo ops like that one I posted.

By the way, nice photography. I checked out your Flickr. Lots of good shots around Columbus I recognized.

I've been out that way a million times and never knew about it.

    Thanks for the compliment!

New to Columbus. Looking for a group that's willing to make some off-roading trips to OHV parks an hour or so away.

If you can think of anywhere close I'll go pretty much whenever. I'm open the majority of the week. I really "start" work the following week. I look forward to getting some trips goin!

so im looking at going out to those areas in the back 40 training area/drop zone trails: does anyone know for sure the "legalities" or permission required to drive on them during the weekend. my understanding is they are off main post so no guard gates or anything and benning (to my knowledge) no longer does regular training on weekends. Just looking for a better idea of what to expect should someone ride up on me

I rode the power line trail for about 45 minutes a couple weeks ago and didn't encounter a single soul. Someone mentioned that a portion of the property may be lease land for hunters and I haven't been back on it since just in case.

As for the drop zone trails, @thecoz will be your go-to for those. I'll shoot him a message and see if he can't help you out.

    awesome thank you!

the whole hunting/land leasing was the other part that concerned me during this time, great point (i know how pissy hunters get[and yes, even I bow hunt but im not up tight about stupid stuff like someone made a noise 1/2 mile away so im going to complain and stir the pot])

If you guys want to try to ride Saturday morning, I could make it. I can't hang around long, though I need to be back in town by around 11 or 1130am. I'll be up for the light to moderate trails. I'm going to avoid anything serious this weekend especially because I have to head up to Carrolton for a meeting and need a fairly clean ride.
