I'm trying to run the coax right now. I didn't really want to desolder the 259. There's a little hole in the firewall with a plug but it's just barely too big to fit. I've never had to remove a 259 and I'm not sure what I'm doing.

It looks like I have the same radio and antenna.

edit: I have watched some videos. Now I know what I'm doing. I'd like to at least attempt to desolder the old one but it doesn't seem to want to unscrew like the ones in the videos. I'm not in a big rush since the antenna mount hasn't shipped yet.

edit2: Got the connector apart. Reverse threaded...no solder. Went ahead and ran it through the hole. I'll fab up a grommet. Put it back together and it tests fine. I don't know...probably end up getting a new one.

If you've got the same antenna I did that came with the coax, the PL259 connector they use is proprietary because their coax OD is a weird diameter. When I cut my connector off to feed the coax through the firewall grommet, I modified a standard Amphenol PL259 to fit the coax and just re-soldered. Just make sure when you re-solder that the 259's center insulator isn't grounding itself to the outer threads, they should be completely insulated from each other.

It's the Comet 3D4M coax meant for a through-hole mount, which could very well be the same as yours, just without the lip mount.

They didn't solder it, so neither did I. The tip isn't open. I can't see what's going on in there. Tested everything before I hooked it up. RX works fine. I didn't TX.

edit: It was like TV coax. Solid core. I was surprised and slightly unhappy.

Let me know when and I'll see if I can't get freed up to lend a hand. I've never done spindles, but I did my front coilovers myself so I'm fairly familiar with the front suspension.

By the way the power line trail at the back gate of Benning is getting some good washes in it again. Fun trail to run.

My most recent picture of my truck being clean! Took the picture on the top of pine mountain at the mountain top store. I got all my truck work done at wolf, plus some other little things that I've done myself.

Really bad photo of messing around at cold springs. Really fun road to ride on and there are a few stream crossings here and there with lots of tricky mud pits.

It's the roads around cold springs road, it's in pine mountain really close to liberty bell pool.

I wave to pretty much everyone with a tacoma or lifted truck so I can't really remember!
Pretty good chance that I did because I'm over there a lot!

I'm glad to see this thread getting some attention again. A lot of the guys that have posted here in the past have moved for military duties. We need to get a meet and greet together soon.

This was a while back before I got my new headlight housings on. If I have time today, I'll probably find a place to take some newer pics. :D
