Anyone install a extra loud horn in their taco?

My commute has changed recently and I'm spending almost 3x the amount of time on the road. With this extra time, I get many more opportunities to witness absolutely horrid driving.

Yesterday, I was coming home from work, 4pm, on a suburban street. Two lanes each direction. I was in the right lane when I noticed the person in the left starting to come over. Now, at this time the nose of my truck is well past the midpoint of their car. At first I thought they were just swerving a bit, but then they really started to change lanes (of course there was no signal either). At this point I layed on the horn. Nothing. Not even a head turn, from driver nor passenger. I kept on the horn as I pinned it and passed them. As I got in front they just kept merging (and also cutting off the person behind me), but what scared me the most is that both driver and passenger were staring at their laps. My 10 seconds of horn didn't even raise their eyes.

Time for a horn that'll get your fucking attention I say....

Anyone have experience with putting a new one in? Or a secondary?

Hella Supertone is a popular one, louder and higher pitched (like the '90s German car horns). I think it's the loudest direct-acting horn available.

There are other ones which do a bit of air compression internally to get a louder sound (basically an air horn), but has a fraction of a second delay as a result.

I installed a 4 horn setup from a mid 80's Cadillac when I realized the stock horn sounds like an Italian scooter horn.

I sell fully restored Delco-Remy horn sets out of Cadillacs and Buick’s of the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. They come in sets of four and play a respective note in harmony: A, C, D, and F. It comes with a plug n play wiring harness plus brackets if desired.

This and a set of sharptones are in my truck, and the escalation of force you can manage is worthy. People get right the hell out the way with the air horn since it commands authority if the sharptones dont work

What does honking even do anymore? From my experience driving, it does nothing but express your feelings towards someone else's reckless behavior which in turn, does nothing. But since they are aware you are upset since you vocally expressed it, they are now out to get you.

    Exactly!
Rarely do I get an "oops, sorry!" type response, rather the "oh did that piss you off? Well then here" look.
Most can hear the horn, louder isn't going to make them care more, but if it makes you feel better, happy motoring.

I honk, a lot. Not out of anger or annoyance, but simply to get the other driver's attention.

99% of my honking is at traffic lights, when the driver in front looks down at the phone and fails to leave at the green light. That happens around here a lot! I did a few experiments without honking, and a few times the light turned back red. Usually, when I honk, the other driver raises his hand as in "my bad". I don't honk like crazy, just a light nudge. I'm definitely not the only one honking in those situations.

The other times when I honk is on the freeway, when another car changes lane straight into me, without looking. I don't need them to feel bad, just to look when changing lanes.

I had those Supertones. I liked them a lot. I kind of like the “beep beep” horns more than the big truck “honk honk” horns. Probably goes back to memories of my first Toyota.

Probably still no match for millennial ADD though. This may work better. And more fun for you.

Ok don’t really do that without a flippable license plate. I mean, they’ve already got their phone out and will take your pic and post it on insta before you’re done laughing.

Air horn isn't so much for the traffic turds, but it sure makes people drop the phone when they dawdle at a green light.

The horn in my '91 Dodge Cummins doesn't work due to a chronic ground problem. So I installed a air horn with a dash mounted toggle switch and I just flip the switch and leave it "on" until it modifies behaviour.

I am planning on ordering a set of PIAA superior bass horns...I had them in a 92 Camry I drove and you'd think it was an old GM boat honking behind you lmao.

It's not about making me feel better. I feel like you didn't read the original post. A better way to catch someone's attention is the goal here. People changing lanes directly into me doesn't happen often, but when it does I want a way to get them to stop looking at their phone and pay attention to what they are doing. I got lucky this time because I had a good sized shoulder to duck over to, but that isn't always the case.

I have also sat through a green light because a person couldn't be bothered to look up, even after honking my horn several times. Chalk it up to stoned California driver's?

I followed your link to a post but it didn’t go into great detail. What’s all needed for this to work? The siren/speaker and the amp. From your comments on the power draw this means you definitely don’t use the factory wiring I’m guessing. I’m about to search if there is a write up anywhere but I liked that clip of the horn
