When I bought my truck I had them install a remote start/unlock on it. I've had nothing but trouble with it not unlocking 1/4 the time. Now the thing won't remote start the truck.

Has anyone installed their own remote start on their truck?

Do ya'll have a brand/model you prefer? I've seen a lot of poor opinions from ones others have bought.

Does anyone know what "No Immobilizer present" means in the options?

And if you get the app, can you start it from anywhere?

Installed a 12 Volt Systems in my 2007 DCSB. One of the best "mods" I've done. Getting to the wiring coming in from the door was a bit tough. Took me about 3 hours in a parking lot. Just watch their install videos first, and then follow along with them.

I installed a Python alarm/remote start in my 2009 in 2012. Other than having to change the FOB because of always dropping my keys, i haven't had any issues. The new FOB is a pain in the a$$ but the system still works great.

I have the Compustar 2 way and I love it. Have had it on the truck since 2014 and no issues. Previously had a Viper and it was just OK; that thing ate through batteries. Have only had to replace the battery in the Compustar once since having it installed.

I've always run DEI product, be it Viper, Python or Clifford and never had a problem. But I also spent 15 years as an installer so I know how to put these systems in. 95% of the time when something goes wrong with most alarm/remote start systems it is an install error not something with the product.

I recently installed an accesorides unit and it was plug-n-play. Got the two way remote and its great. I can add the app later if I want, but so far haven't had a need.

Viper came with my truck and I'm not impressed. Sometimes the thing starts itself, sometimes it just won't start, and sometimes it won't unlock the doors and I Have to use the key. Also, whoever did the wiring should refrain from that type of work.
Can a 12-volt solution be installed over it?

The viper alarm that was already installed in the wife's Tundra is buggy at best. Sometimes the remote start will work as intended (about 70 percent of the time). The other times it either triggers the panic alarm after a slight delay or it just does nothing except for flash the lights.

Yes, Directed was a big one, but they recently got bought by VOXX. I used to go with Audiovox Prestige systems in my vehicles (that's what is in my 2015 Taco) mostly because I preferred the remotes. They have purchased DEI now.

For the second gen Tacos, looks like 12 volt solutions is selling the VOXX APSRS with the add-on PE1BTWZ 2-way upgrade. They've put their name on it and included a T-harness in the kit to make it plug and play. Also looks like you can add the Carlink - ASCL6 to allow it to be cellular or GPS compatible.
