I am trying to find something on how to do the wiring, but just get a bunch of hits for either the front cameras you suction cup on your windshield or rear license plate camera install.

I want to take a wireless rear license plate camera and install it in the front grill. Any links to how to wire would be much appreciated.

    Thanks all!

The wireless cameras typically get wired to your reverse light at the rear of the vehicle, and the screen gets wired to accessory power (on when the truck is on) and then when the camera gets power from the reverse light, it turns on and triggers the camera feed on the screen.

What are you planning to use for your screen? That will determine how the camera needs to be wired.

The one I was thinking of buying has a 5" screen that I would put on the dash. The main reason is I want to be able to see what is ahead better when off-roading. A side benefit is getting into some of these ridiculously tiny parking spaces when the people next to you have parked on the line, etc.

You need a way to switch the camera on and off so you don’t have a constant video stream on the dash (because that is illegal)
That will mean running wires from the engine bay into the cab. And if you’re doing that, i would just run a regular (not wireless) camera and do the anytime front/rear camera piece.

Why is that illegal but not these front cams for sale that you just mount inside your windshield?

A few reasons I’ve come across

Many of them dont have screens.
The ones that do are usually very small screens
All the ones I’ve ever installed, the screen can be turned off
People typically mount them somewhere behind the mirror so they’re not super visible anyway.

And many states and cops wont care if you have a front view camera visible while driving. We see people get away with all sorts of illegal crap. But I’ve also had clients tell me they got tickets because the person in the passenger seat was watching a video on their phone, and technically that is video in motion visible to the driver. So dont take anything I say as legal advice lol

You may not have gone to law school, but you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night! But really, I appreciate it. I especially appreciate the help you gave on my amp/stereo question.

I will look up the law in Georgia and see what it says. If by chance, it is okay, or if I were some nefarious driver who was going to just put the screen that comes with it (which is small) in the little cubby section below the air conditioner controls, how would I wire it in the front? Is there an accessible wire that is better than others to tie in to?

You’re probably best off using an add-a-fuse in the fuse box. I’m not sure which ones are accessory-powered off the top of my head.
