Anyone install an AC kill switch on acceleration for THIER truck?

    So as I was driving up I-70 over vail pass at 10,000 feet with the AC on I could feel my AC
    sucking up my power when I went to pass two cars at full throttle. I push the AC button
    off and got some more power.
    This made me think about when I owned my Porsche turbo and remembered that with the Porsche when ever you put your foot all the way down for full acceleration it automatically
    turned off the AC so you had full power.
    Has anyone added a kill type switch for the AC when at full throttle?
    Do any of the new Tacoma have this feature??
    Doesn't sound like it would be to hard to install something like that.

    used to have - 99 2.4L I4 5 lug & 04 prerunner v6
    ya, you just push the button like you already did, just cant get any simpler then that, don't need any fancy switches to do it automatic when the button to turn it off is 6" away

    Yea, I want to run a switch that is connected to maybe the throttle body, or cable that will turn it off on full acceleration and is wired inline to the AC, Though maybe someone has done this for me to copy

    Porches are crap, they look good, go fast, the quality believe it or not is terrible compared to a Tacoma,
    They break easily and the cost for any part is insane, they look good in the garage and your afraid to drive them because they drop thousands of dollars for each mile, been there, done that, I can drive another 200,000 miles and the value will still be the same on my truck, No Porsche engine will ever go 500,000 miles, maybe 200,000 if your lucky, but if it did you then you will need a new transmission for 10,000 dollars, lol

    If that is something you really want to do, the best way would be to run the AC clutch wire through the NC contacts of a relay and then use a Hobbs vacuum switch tapped into manifold vacuum, with the Hobbs switch set to close at about 2" hg, to energize the relay. Now, the Hobbs switches come in NC and NO, so you need to be sure of what they consider "normal". Also, make sure you get a vacuum switch and not a pressure switch.

    Doing it this way would accomplish your goal on heavy acceleration, but would not require full throttle.

    I think Tacomas are the only 20 year old trucks that can sell for upwards of $20,000.

    On 2nd thought, the better place to put the relay would be in series with the AC pressure switch. Doing it this way might not even require a relay. Just put the Hobbs switch in series with the AC pressure switch. You would need to do a current draw test on the AC pressure switch circuit to make sure you aren't overloading the Hobbs switch. Also you would need to make sure you get a 2 terminal Hobbs switch. Again, make sure of what they call "normal".

    That's a good way to do it. or figure out how to mount a switch near gas pedal that will be tripped under full throttle.
