truck is 6 years old but I regret not buying a 4x4. I have been thinking about installing a winch. has anyone done this? do I need all those steel hardware where the hitch gets installed on?

it all depend, those hidden winch mount are just about the same cost as a tube/plate bumper. you can go with the hitch mount with a harbor freight winch receiver mount or other manufacture mount. lots of possibility out there.

you will need a hitch mount. if you go this route, pretty much any brand hitch winch mount will go on it. I just mention harbor freight just because they always have it in stock and also winches too lol.

I looked at harbour frieght after reading your post. what lb rating winch do work for pulling truck out of snow or mud? would I need another battery since this would be mounted at the back of the truck?

A 9500lbs is more than enough. Since its going to the back you'll need a dual battery system and a deep cycle battery.

Dont need an xtra battery, just need the proper size cables to run from the battery to the winch. Warn makes a quick disconnect fitting so you can easily remove the hitch mounted winch.
