You guys are doing some rad things and I'm thoroughly enjoying following along (esp as my house is under construction and my crawlers are stashed in a closet at the moment)

I burned up stock motors being rough with the truck and not crawling it. Treat them like a cheap shit ox and they burn up fast.

Not at all saying that's what you were doing. I am saying that on and off throttle on a crawler can lead to bad times especially on high grip surfaces like carpet. I've seen kids chew up a motor on a carpet floor.

Figure out your gear ratio. You may be geared to high or may need to run 3s.

Putting an actual load on it is definitely a good way to go about it.

I ran the LGRP and Mini Kumodo for 30 seconds at full throttle, then let it cool down a bit. This was just to "get things going".

After which, I put my throttle limiter to 75% and ran it at 1,770rpm for 30 seconds straight.

    Furitek app stated 80.8 F

    Screenshot_20250125-164132_FuriCar.jpg

My infrared thermometer was damn close to that; I blame any small deviations to the surface coatings on the motor

    20250125_164139.jpg

And yeah, it felt cool to the touch.

    Great point.

I know in our track cars, we played with different spur and pinion gears toying with different speeds. But also to meet race restrictions cause we were limited to 2S.

I don't see much mentioned at all when it comes to transmissions on our SCX24's. Even less about pinion gear options and more about overdrive/underdrive for our axles.

All I can say is it seems 11T became the stock pinion gear, and before that it was 10T (think you or someone else mentioned this).

The Mini Kumodo in front of me has a 16T pinion, so I wonder what spur gear guys like @Deathbysnusnu and @Strictlytoyz are running.

I have a stock SCX24 transmission I don't mind taking apart to check.

I have no idea what it currently has, but I have a 12T pinion and 32T spur on the way.

Your motor is SCX24 specific though right?

It should have a 16T pinion on it.

And if you ordered the correct Furitek transmission, I'd assume it would be geared appropriately for the Mini Kumodo?

Spur gear from a stock transmission in the SCX24 GX470 is 55 tooth.

    20250125_181536.jpg

Same for the LGRP MR24 (as expected, it says stock on their page)

I have no idea what I have, or if what I ordered to fix it is right. It's a Stellar transmission with the Furitec FCX24 motor mount and Mini Komodo.
What I have coming is the Furitec SCX24 motor mount for the Mini Komodo, and it's supposed to fit the Stellar transmission.
It also requires a different pinion and spur, SCX24 specific.
The mount and gear set come as a complete set, but it's sold out.
The mount by itself is available. There is more than one to choose from, crossing fingers I got it right.
The gear set is available separately. Same situation as above.
I had 14 windows open this morning from different vendors and Google searches comparing part numbers and pics trying to get it right, at this point I'm just waiting on stuff to show up and see what happens. :notsure:

So, per Furitek's website the FCX24 variant of the Mini comes with the same 16T pinion gear.

I'm betting the spur gear is the same; open her up and get a tooth count!

Edit: The Stellar transmission with the Micro comes with a 55T spur gear. I can't confirm the pinion gear size though as it doesn't advertise it.

However, when the Micro is sold by itself, it comes with an 11T pinion. Which makes sense if that's the pinion used in the transmission/motor combo.

My thoughts are, the reason for the higher tooth count on the Mini is because the motor spins a lot slower in general compared to the Micro.

Pinion size is not my issue. I have one on the motor and one on the way, both are prolly different tooth count.
The spur is a different size from SCX24 and FCX24.
You can see where the difference in the mount right where the etched lettering is.
Both pics show what appears to be the same pinion.
The 12T I have coming just happens to come with the spur.

Ah gotcha, I thought you were trying to change your gearing so I wanted to get you whatever info I could to help.

16t pinion and I can't even see the teeth on the spur.

you can see where the spur takes up that space in the case/mount. The SCX mount doesn't have that bump in the case, so the spur must be smaller as it's spinning on the same shaft.

Blow this up and see if you can count it. :D

I take it, you would only really change your gear ratio if you've got a really fast or really slow turning motor (if following stock specs).

The Micro is 3450KV and comes with an 11T pinion.

The Mini is a 2000KV and comes with a 16T pinion; Furitek has a new version of the Mini and it's a 2500KV, also comes with a 16T pinion.

So I'm going to move on to something on the rig is binding up causing the heat if the gearing is basically within what is tolerable and everyone has the same spur/pinion.counts. too much grease somewhere? Bearings not spinning as they should be or a axle shaft binding in one?

I'm doubtful that the tire size is causing final ratio to be so far off that it is generating heat when it shouldn't. Resistance heat wouldn't be in the motor if the servo or esc was drawing too much power. I can say the NSDRC servo is a hog and I get noticeable less runtime now that I have it.
