Okay... Parts for SC10 FINALLY got here. The idler gear took a crap on me. I haz new one BUT. There are chunks of the old idler gear stuck in the input gear... I got them all out except for one spline. It's stuck in there good... maybe enough carving will get it out.

Also, bigger pinion! anxious to see if I can get some more top end outta this castle motor.

It will give me about an hour with about 5 minutes of. Stopping to check screws and what not. So stopping and starting about 3 times in an hour. I've never continuously ran through the whole pack lol

Just got back from the skate park.. After a hard landing where it bottomed out in the back my truck's acting like the drag brake is on stronger? I'm thinking the gear mesh got pushed tighter?

That's what I'm thinking... Also, pretty sure a bearing in one of the rear hub carriers took a crap. Hoping I have some laying around.

They're not a problem at all to change out. The truck still drives fine other than acting like the drag brake is super heavy. One of the back tires is wobbling a bit. I was driving it pretty hard, though. I'm surprised nothing else broke, honestly.

Just got back from the track had a blast, track was dry but not undriveable. There having a race tomorrow, but today just a pratice day. I drove some buddies' stuff that impressed the hell out of me, a Hot Bodies truggy that was a freaking monster, (can't even remember the motor/ESC) but was on 5S. Drove a couple of X-Ray 1/8 buggies, really enjoyed them they were fun, and powerful, running Tekin R8 motor/ESC combos, (I think). Drove a Losi and AE SC trucks, meh, not bad, but I still think I can put down faster laps with my T4, those fuckers are heavy. I've got a very short vid of the track idiot, old buddy, jumping that Hot Bodies truggy. It's on my phone, if I can figure out how I'll post. Any help would be appreciated.

    Yeah.
Always fun to have someone around that isn't afraid to tear their stuff up, as long as they're not tearing your stuff up in the process!

    Caution: Long Editorial

Getting back into this hobby I have been reminded of the various reasons it interests people.

Some people just like to drive them. They buy the RTR systems or sloppily slap a kit together and get someone else to get it to work, then drive them until they don't work anymore. Then they get someone to help them do a quick fix to get it back running again and go drive it. Some of them do surprisingly well with a crap setup, but they have fun.

Some people just like to tweak on things. They spend more time in the pits tweaking on things (many not their own, see above) than actually driving. They are a wealth of knowledge and typically have good setups. But, either they don't get enough practice in, they over-tweaked trying something new, or they just don't have the knack or interest in driving to win a lot of races. And they don't really care.

I guess I am a bit of both. I love building the kits, taking my time to do it right. I like painting bodies (SC is a godsend -- already almost trashed one body, have a second one ready, thinking about what I will do on the third). I do all my tweaking at home, checking every setting, tightening every bolt. I make no big changes at the track, even though I take everything I may need with me. When I am at the track, I drive all that I can, getting a good feel for the setup of the vehicle under different track conditions. When I return home, I clean stuff up and make minor tweaks for the next trip.

None of this is new -- it was the same 20 years ago when I used to race. The same folks are out there, some spending all their time driving their junkers (including a lot of cool little kids), others spending their time assembling and re-assembling their cars in the pits.

I was telling my wife a couple of weeks ago, "I think the guy that runs the track just likes to tweak on stuff -- he was only out on the track for a few minutes, and when I was done he already had his car taken apart in the pits." When I asked him this past week what 2WD front buggy tires worked best (I was just trying to minimize the on-throttle push my Losi 22 has, but it is otherwise pretty well dialed), he helpfully proceeded to go through my car tweaking on stuff. This freaked me out a little, I don't like people working on any of my RC or normal size cars. But, he meant well and didn't screw anything up, and he had no idea whether I was a tweaker or a driver.

All in all, it doesn't matter which side you are on -- it's all for fun, and it's a symbiotic relationship. Sure, there are some guys with attitudes, but they often get beat by either a driver or a tweaker on race day because they are neither. Which is also fun.

So, are you a driver, tweaker, or douchebag with an attitude?

I'd say I'm a mix of all, no douche, well I don't think. I'm tickled to help out some one, give up small parts, or at least let borrow stuff, (depending of course). I do get aggravated at some folks who ask, and then don't listen, or proceed to tell me why I'm wrong, (and I may be) after asking, if you knew why ask? But do love to fiddle, but, like you at home, tracks for driving, home is for wrenching, well maintenance wise any way.

In other news... t4, you ever have any problems with rear hub carrier bearings? My right rear tends to demolish the outside bearing. I haven't had these problems until I started running it hard with this new brushless motor on blacktop etc.

Sure, I've had some to go out before, even detonate. But not with any frequency, or at least enough to ever make take notice. I'm not sure, but I think that's a off-road model...
