I've been using Hobby King Lipos for a while now too, very happy with them.

the Axial Buggy will be coming out as a kit so you will also need a motor and ESC setup as well.

I highly recommend A-Main Hobbies to order stuff on line from. Their brand of Batteries and chargers are very good and not that expensive (Protek) and come with a pretty good warranty. (I cannot comment about the batteries themselves but I have read some pretty good reviews about them)

    got them bookmarked too

oh, i have a toolbox full of motors, brushes, radio equip, and lots of spare hardware.

prob will have to get new ESC if i go with LiPo, though.

have many 7 cell NiMHs that i built myself as well. just have to see what is still compatible.

the only issue with using a Non-lipo ESC with not having a LiPo cutoff. You can damage a LiPo battery by running it too low on voltage.

Brushless motors and ESC combos are relatively cheap since when they first came out.

Sockmonkey do you have a laptop? Cell phone? If so you are already using Lipos. The issues with Lipos are greatly blown out of proportion. The main issue is proper charging. You must have a Lipo charger to charge Lipo batterys. Set the charge to the proper setting, and plug it in, it really is that simple. Most chargers now will run an internal check to ensure the battery you have hooked to the charger matches what you have input in the settings. I also highly recommend a balance charger, to extend and preserve battery life.

As stated above you don't have to run the most expensive stiff out there, I have had great luck with Blue Lipo brand batterys, and my Thunder brand balance charger, and none of it was terribly expensive. Oh, I still do use a Lipo Safe fire proof bag when charging just to be safe.

I went back and forth for a while on Lipos, and did tons of research (there is so much info on the interwebs for lipo usage). What finally convinced me was the fact that I was already charging 2 cell phones and 2 laptops, all powered by lipos and hadn't blown anything up yet. Now all my trucks run lipo and I couldn't be happier with the choice.

Damn, now I'm going to get in trouble with the wife. I have like 7 cars and trucks sitting in the garage i haven't used in years my favorite is still the Lodi eight only problem is its so fast anytime I hit anything it breaks. Time to hit the hobby shop and buy some parts and get these things going again.

I used to be very much in to R/C, loved racing truggy and buggy but it gets expensive fast. I sold most of my R/Cs, but still go to events every once in a while. If I get back into it I think I'll go with a 1/5th (King Motor) and the new electric 1/8th buggies that are coming soon (like the HPI Apache C1)

Some of the r/c I had:

some devices may use them, but i just checked and, mine do not.

Looks good!, some brands play with the scale, like traxxas calling the revo 1/10th (at least they used to, not sure if they still do)

Pretty much the same technology, with similar charge and discharge characteristics. My point is somewhere in your life you are probably using Lipo, Li-ion, LiFe battery technology, 100% safely without a second thought.

as long as you charge it using the correct settings and a balance charger (charge each cell individually instead of in series as one battery) you'll have no issues with lipos. I had a 14.8V in my r/c boat, and used 7.2V (with reg) as the receiver battery pack in my buggy and truggy.
