yea get a receiver pack (using the 4AA batteries is junk IMO)

as far as the pipe goes, cap it off and fill it with water and put it in your freezer to pop the dent out

I might just try the freezer thing....

I think I'll replace the servos before getting a receiver pack. The pack seems more like a long term investment IMO.

the packs are cheap, get a NiMH pack for like 15 bucks (Traxxas sells some for their vehicles)

    servos are way more expensive

I tried the freezing thing for the exhaust. It's not the big part of the pipe. It's more like the "header". I'm gonna have to get creative, looks like...

So I'm new to the R/C world but want to get a 4x4 R/C truck and am looking to spend between $400-$500 for one. I want an electric one to start with as the gas power ones look like to much work to start out with.

My question are which truck do you recommend and where to purchase it(on-line websites) that have good prices and service. I've looked into Maxxas Stampede and Emaxx but am not sure if theres anything better? Give me some advice please!

a little out of your price range, but the brushless E-Revo 1/10 scale is fucking insane.

You gotta figure what type of vehicle you want. You mentioned a Stampede (entry level stadium truck) and a Emaxx (electric or nitro monster truck). I'm sure I'll get shit for this, but, screw nitro. Electric is the way to go, faster, cleaner, and less noise. "May" cost a tad more to get started, but then your finished, cept for parts.

Save your money and start with the summit 1/10.

I am new to R/C and that is what I am going to get, Because I want to be able to go anywhere with it. :)

also depends on what you are going to do with it. race or bash

this is a comparison of slash 4x4 and stampede 4x4....2 dif uses, but one can potentially do both

also, if you get a RTR (ready to run) for that money, make sure you set some back for broken part replacements and upgrades.

I'd vote for the T-Maxx, my first hobby grade R/C was one of the older versions of it that I had saved up for. Hell I still have it.

    Nitro all the way

Electric and Gas can both be a lot of work, especially when you're just getting started. My advice is buy something a bit cheaper to start out with, like a Short Course truck or 2wd electric stadium truck for $200-250. Both of those kinds of trucks are very durable and inexpensive, but still a lot of fun.

Also, you might want to check out the 1/16 Traxxas Summit.
