Hey nitro is fun too, and IMO maintenance and run costs are a moot point

I got no issues with nitro, hints why i still my usa-1

Reason I got out of nitros was the complaints i got running them around where i live, ponds didnt let me run my boats for fear of poisioning the pond, had cops called for noise etc.. No problems running electrics, just miss the nitro smell :(

I have nothing against nitro cars as I am in the market for one, but for a beginner electric is the easier way to go. Its more basher friendly and for someone tuat doesnt know about nitro engines it could be a problem.

this is true fact. You have to develop an ear to tell when your nitro car is running right; temp won't always tell you. if you're learning about RC in general, doing all that at once, while entirely possible, can be overwhelming.

I'm thinking about getting back in to the electric scene and wanting to build a race buggy but the last time I really was in to electric vehicles it was just when brushless technology was coming out... Anyone have any opinions on esc's? I'm debating on a Novak or Orion but the Orion R10 is pricey so I'm a little hesitant to jump in and buy one... Any feed back or info on what you guys are running as far as esc, motor, batteries & servo would be appreciated. I am a losi guy, so ill be running 22 buggy.

I ran Novak for over twenty years, had great luck out of it. However the newer stuff from them is very cheesy IMO. Take a look a Tekin stuff, as well as any number of Chinese offerings.

been out of the rc scene for a few years since i sold my t-maxx. just ordered a 1/24 losi short course truck. got the brushless version. may try to make some of my own parts, and figured this was a good cheap truck to experiment on. looks like the tie rods are pretty junky. looks like flat lexan or something. so i may start out by trying to make some new arms. as far as batteries go though, would anyone recomend the 11.1 lipo over the 7.4 lipo, or vise versa? i gues overheating the motor is the concern with the higher voltage? my t-maxx was nitro, so this is my first dip into the electric waters.....

I'd honestly keep the stock arms

Al arms will do more damage in a crash

yeah, i learned that from watching guys when i ran my t-maxx. all of the guys with aluminum arms destrowyed their trucks. had good lock with RPM replacements, but doubt they make stuff for the tiny trucks.

edit: i mispoke in the first post. i didn't mean to say arms. i meant to say tie rods.

making parts for a 1/24 will be a pita, parts are tiny! Id run some small 7.4 25c lipos, maybe try gen ace.

If you up in VA and wanna check out some r/c's I have a few you can try out

    looking for a challenge :D

i have a decent amount of fiberglass and carbon fiber experience from the marine industry, so i may try to make a carbon chasis. involves far fewer small parts...just tiny drill bits.

not sure if/when i'll be back up in VA next, but i'll let you know.

Chassis shouldnt be too hard, small sheets of carbonfiber aint too much.

Buy a 1/10 scx10 and braze a cage for it, thats what im trying to get into it :D

i have a yard or two of carbon in my garage ready to go. much more than a chasis would take. i may need a finer weave though for such a small part.

hmmmmm, i have wanted to get into brazing :drevil:

Not sure how small of weave you would need, I usually just buy 1/8" sheets to make battery trays and servo mounts for my boats.

If your good at fiberglass I may hit you up next time i wreck one of my boats, haha.

I picked up a small oxy/acetylene torch, when i get some silver solder and some flux i will start making some tube cages out of some 3/16 brake line i got. I did some brazing a few years ago and it wasnt too hard to pick up.

if you haven't done it already, look into vaccume forming when you're doing carbon or fiberglass. it yeilds a lighter and stronger product than you're typical rolling methods.
