I'm looking to get into RC cars and have a big noob question...

I'm trying not to drop a large amount of money on my first car. That being said will I be able to have fun with a car such as one of the more basic Traxxas Slash models that retail around $200? Or am I better off going with one that cost significantly more, even though I don't even know how often I'll play with the RC car?

My main concern is the MPH difference between the two, is 30 MPH fast enough for a beginner or will I get bored of that speed quickly?

Here's a link of the $200 car I'm looking at

Looked it up and it is a cool rig. A little more than I want to pay, though.

Thoughts on the Redcat Sumo? http://www.redcatracing.com/SumoRC It has a following of people, just not aftermarket parts.

I'd personally stay away from the slash just due to literally everything from shock bodies to endlinks being plastic. Team Associated has a really nice short course truck called the SCX10, that'll serve you better and just about every shop carries parts for them.

If you buy one be prepared to buy a new tranny... My tranny gave out only after 10 battery packs. They are soooo fun

You're right, I was thinking SC10, although the SCX10 looks like it'd be very fun as well.

I love the scx10 trail honcho . Nice and slow and scale. You just have to own a scale crawler and some fast short course trucks and some sweet street cars!! :) Check out this run I did the other day.

I don't know much about Redcat not a very popular brand. If you are looking for cheap, durable, fun I would stick with a Losi lower end model or just go with the traxxas teton. Depends on what your looking to do with your rc and how fast you wanna go.

I'm bidding on some used Losi Minis and Micros on fleaBay. But apparently others want to pay enough that I could just buy a new one for. I'll keep bidding for another week on items and see how that plays out. If I can't get some stellar deal then I'll just buy new. I've got three kids that want an RC as well. I have my two SCX10 chassis that I won't let them run because I've got a lot tied up in them. I may get the Redcat and a Losi for now and see which I like better to work on. Then go from there.

But for the post about a starter rig. If your kid is 10-15 years maybe, or at least semi resposible, the SCX10 line is great. Plenty of aftermarket aluminum parts and plenty of online support through various forums. But the scaleness is the coolest part. My Honcho was well over $300. Their Dingo is cheaper.

Fired up the ol 3.3 revo yesterday. Spent about 20 min tuning it but it doesn't seem to want to shift into second.
    Any ideas?

That's nice. But I'm buying for an 11yo and 5yo. Scored a Mini and a Micro Desert for a little over $100. I'm going to get a Redcat Sumo for me and the 3yo. Whichever one would work best to pack in a suitcase and be more fun, I'll get myself one of those. Also getting some wide RPM front bumpers, too. It'll be around the $200 said and done. Later will be bearings and aluminum bits for when they break them.

How do you like it? I'm getting myself one of whichever one is the most fun. Looks like it would be the Mini T judging by the pictures.
