I really like the Twin Hammers platform, it is a solid unit. I assume you are running the stock 78T spur? How many teeth on your pinion?

28T pinion and yes 78T spur. Seems just a bit too fast in low gear too. I haven't had it outside yet, just carpet cruising for now but it could use some more low end. In high gear at full throttle, the tires get real skinny, so I think it will have plenty of top end. :p

The kit came with slightly taller rubber that the rtr does so that may have something to do with the gearing. The 28T was suggested in the kit to start with.

3300. It was the mid range choice offered by Horizon Hobby for hop ups.
The thing runs super smooth and quiet, absolutely no cogging at low speeds. I just think it would benefit from a smaller pinion.
If the TX had ARC control setting, I think I could use it as is. But it doesn't.

Can you gear down just the low side of the tranny?

I don't think so, or I'm not aware if I'm able too.

Maybe you guys know more about this...
With my old Airtronics MX-3 it has a setting called ARC, which reduces the throttle input (and steering if needed) for the first 1/4 trigger squeeze, makes it more of a fine control, then goes into regular acceleration for the rest of the throttle curve. Extremely helpful for taming toys that have an abundance of power. The Savage has this setting almost maxed out so it doesn't do backflips by just bumping the trigger. I can actually run it at slow speeds without having an egg between my finger and the trigger.

For the next half of my explanation...
The new DX4C has EXPO, which I am familiar with for helicopters. It does the same thing as ARC, softens the controls around center, leaves a little finer control.
Using this setting only leaves me with a dead spot at the initial throttle, then goes right into acceleration....
I have calibrated the ESC per the instructions, maybe I need to re-calibrate after setting the EXPO so the ESC recognizes it???

    Thoughts?

Not to my knowledge. Unless there is an aftermarket gear for the tranny

Personally, if I wanted crawler precise low end, I would go sensored brushless, or get a nice brushed system.

    Agreed.
Not really needing the fine crawl control, I already have a stupid slow brushed crawler (65 turn) that will move dining room chairs on it's own..:p
I'll know more when I open it up in the street tomorrow. I'm not really interested in super high speeds, I just want it to be a nice mix of both. I'm betting a smaller pinion will do it, at the sacrifice of some high speed.

In your case, a smaller pinion sounds like a good idea to me too. I am planning to put a slighter higher teeth count in my TH to gain some speed as I am a bit on the slow end of things.

Did you put the sway bars on? It sounds like you will definitely need them.

Only in the rear. The front seems to have good stability. It came with 3 different levels of sway bar too, so using the mid range for now.
I may remove it later on but for now it may save me from a roll over.

The rollovers without it may come too easy. It sounds like you have quick rig there.

There is a nice little rear axle truss out there that alters the geometry of the rear linkage. It seems to help temper the rollover somewhat.

Yep, I've seen that and already have it on a mental list of mods to come. :)

Which way did you go with the expo? Sounds like you went the opposite way. I have expo and triple rates dialed in all my planes. On my futaba air TX negative expo gets the results you're after, but I know different manufactures are opposite.

I tried both ways. One direction leaves a dead space in the beginning, the other direction just gives it more punch on the trigger.

Not familiar with Dynamite ESC's, but do you have computer programmable throttle curves? Was always playing with those on my old Castle setup on my 8ight-T.

Not computer programmable, my first time with Dynamite too.
It has 4 start modes and I have it in the slowest mode.

Calibrate the esc with the EPA set to 100. Then crank down the EPA to 20 and see how the low speed control is. That will tell you if it's the controller or the esc and engine setup
