The RC4WD motors are cheap. I've gotten several from DollarHobbyz.com for about $10 each. Flat rate and fast shipping keeps my business there when they've got something I need.

You can get a Traxxas 550 in there but you'd need a bigger spur and smaller pinion...and it's a little heavier. Keep it on 2s, too. It's winding is equivalent to a 540 35t from what I could find online. I run one in my Bomber right now.

I was wrong. The 550 is in one of my Wraiths with a HobbyWing 1080 ESC. It does OK but requires a lot of throttle control because it can give the wheel speed quickly. I don't remember the gearing I used but it was the biggest spur that would fit under the cover and almost the smallest pinion I had. It's 32p also. I collect spurs and pinions when I see them on sale, too. I've got nearly half a shoe box full. The tranny is the same ratio as the SCX10 though.

I have a Holmes Hobbies Torque Master esc and a27t motor for my Wraith. Now I just have to get motivated enough
    to install them.:)

Might pick up a 13t crawlmaster to try out too, I'm just in a lot of sand and water and it's hell on brushed motors

Def looks nice. Seems a little out of the ordinary (as far as solid axle and chassis set-up) for Traxxas, but they do usually do things right, when they do something. Like dtaco said, the waterproof is awesome. Aluminum GTS shocks look legit. Plus, you know once it is out, it'll have aftermarket options and overall good parts support. Pretty cool.

That TRX-4 does look interesting. Lets hope it doesn't fall victim to the "Too soon to production" thing.
Don't get me wrong, I like Traxxas enough to have 5 of their models. But they have been somewhat iffy on some of the new stuff.
Now, since this is a Toyota forum I saw this and had to share. https://www.hpiracing.com/en/kit/116558

I've got a axial wraith that I just brought back to life with a Novak timbuk 2 brushed motor and ESC. I've relocated the electronics and moved the battery to the front for weight over the front end. Also a Traxxas Slash 4x4 brushless, but it's down for repairs. I run lipo only.

That thing reminds me of my 1/16th e-revo brushless. It turns tires into pizza cutters on a single 3s.
