Tbh a brand new 3.3 engine is completely affordable, cheaper than a decent competition worthy brushless motor. If it were me? Id drop a brand new 2.5r or 3.3 in it.

Anyone here have a 1/8 scale buggy? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a Team Associated RC 8.2e tonight?

I've been out of the performance buggy thing for awhile and currently have a Trail Finder 2 with a bunch of stuff done to it that's a shelf/living room crawling queen

I have an RC8b3.1e, RC8.2e and Hobao Hyper SSe 1/8 buggies, what are your concerns?

    I put b3.1 shocks on the 8.2

Are you happy with it? Team Associated was my go to brand back in the day. I'd like to get back into 1/8 nitro, but the noise and the mess pushes me towards electric.

Depends on what youre planning to do with it, the 8.2e is still in production and parts are still readily available. As a basher or speed runner its def a fantastic option.

As a racer, it wont be competitive in regional Expert, its a little outdated. It should do plenty fine in Intermediate club racing.

For the price, i dont think they can be beaten, just needs some better shocks and servo than the RTR comes with. I dremeled shock mounts on the arms and installed threaded b3.1e shocks.

The b3.1e is superior, its basically a Mugen MBX7 copy, but its also more than twice the price new when youre done building it.

Yeah I agree after seeing prices for rebuild kits that doesn't seem worth it. I just didn't want to spend the money right now. I thought this engine still had some life left in it. I just can't wrap my mind around how it went from lots of compression and quite a bit of pinch still to almost no compression in three tanks.

If i had an ounce of a clue, id chime in, i gave up nitro since i didnt wanna become a mechanical engineer to enjoy the hobby.

Good luck, hope it works out either way and you get to enjoy the truxk again

How much part interchange between the two buggies. I'd love to build the team buggy, but I know how quickly that can spiral out of control in terms of cost

Yeah I get that. Electric is much less of a hassle. But I do enjoy tinkering. And nothing beats the sound and smell of nitro IMO. And I did get plenty of use out of this 3.3 so I guess I can't complain too much.

The wheels, wheel nuts, and the wing. Everything else will need modification. The b3.1e is an entirely new car. The 8.2e is still a great little car and id even go as far as to say id take it over a tekno eb48.3 or losi 8ight-e. Its still runs like a bat out of hell, it just wont cut turns like a b3.1e, agama, or xray.

If you dont plan on trying to be a club racing champ with it, its a good buy.

Oh no doubt, i love nitro, id love to get another one day but when i learn more about them and start winning races with my electrics. Its hard to practice nitro cuz theres no marshals during practice, car is dead by the time i get off the driver stand to flip my car back over.

Only thing id put on the list of mods if its an RTR is a new servo, .08, 240+ oz tq should do great. And some better wheels/tires.

Couple under hood comparisons, top is b3.1, bottom is 8.2e

I run proline on my race rigs, hard pack with loose dirt on top, sometimes high bite and wet.

Fugitives, Hole Shots, Blockades. Wheels i buy whatever is cheapest, my wheels always outlast my tires.

Aka and jconcepts make awesome tires too.

I have a Tekno EB48.4 and love it. Ive had some very hard crashes with nothing broke. Associated makes great buggies but Tekno is stronger and just as competitive.

I'm stubborn and closed minded. There's certainly a lot more brands out now vs. the golden age. I like to stick to brands I know. I still remember my friend buying a Schumacher car back in the day and pretty much getting next to nothing for parts support. Sure things have changed but Associated parts are everywhere

I'm still disappointed that Novak went out of business

Well I'm happy to report that my engine turned out to be fine. One of three things fixed my tuning/idle issues. First I fixed the leaking fuel tank cap. Then after replacing my clutch bell bearings after they decided to blow up I discovered that one of the carb plug screws had stripped out the carb body. So I replaced the carb body along with all the o-rings. Next, I cut the ends of my fuel lines off where they were stretched out and loose fitting.

So, I believe that my issue was an air leak in one of those three places. The truck runs like a bat out of hell now and idles smooth and low without dying.

It's been an adventure getting this truck running after 6 years. It's been frustrating at times and I have dumped more money in it than I originally planned because I refused to let it beat me but it was worth it.

I have already had three people tell me I should go electric and dump nitro altogether but I don't think I will do that. It's just too damn fun.

Just cosmetic: Window Tint, radio knobs, temp control knobs, Tech-Deck, Tonneau bed cover, tail gate lock, de-chromed all badges inside and out, installed back up camera and custom bedside decals.

    That is bad ass!
