There’s a YouTube somewhere with a guy destroying his TRX-4 on a bike track. I think it was the 50’ jumps on 6s that finally did it in.

Wow, looked that one up. Nothing like buying a $500 truck and blowing it up. I like to think I'm past that stage. I think thats why scale model crawling has my interest. I don't need to be the fastest anymore, just like cool stuff that I play with. I keep everything shiny and new looking now. I was digging the defender body, but the bronco allows for different bodies with fewer modifications to the chassis. They even have a working warn winch for christ sake. If it would have been a '71 blazer in hugger orange I would already own it. I'm not a big ford guy. Proline makes a power wagon body that has my eye. I thought at age 39 I was over this...

Anyone else seen the new Traxxas Unlimited Desert Race Truck yet?
My local Hobbytown has one and it is pretty bad a$$.
I only saw a few things that I didn't like.
    First, THE PRICE: $800.00!
Second, The recessed (can't change them) battery plugs. Also, this is a total rip-off of LOSI.
Last, but not major is that some of the plastic suspension parts could have been aluminum or
at least not been so cheap looking.
I hope it does well but then again Traxxas needs to get knocked down a peg or two.
Making everything proprietary and suing everyone over BS patent issues is a stupid move on their part.
    Ok, rant done.
    I still might get one.:D

I have mixed thoughts on it if it happens.

Positivly. Axial will get proper management and maybe spare stocks would be maintained. Also R&D with new products. Quite possibly the brand endorsements would crossover between the Horizon lineups. If we’re lucky parts consolidation like the Losi Mini and Vaterra SlickRock were.

Negativly. Rig consolidation like the Losi Mini and Vaterra SlickRock(both ways, right?). Loss of rigs: phase out of original scx10 and Wraith. Possibly Horizon would shut down another ‘brand’ to ‘replace’ it with Axial.

Well I ordered a Vaterra Ascender '68 f100 bind and drive truck. I went in to buy the Traxxas TRX4 Bronco. The owner of the shop has a course in the basement and had an SCX10ii, an ascender, and a trx4 in the shop. I got to try out all three on the floor. As cool as the TRX4 was there was just too much going on in there for me. Locking diffs, 2 speed trans, portal axles... All sound awesome until it breaks. Vaterra had a $40 off promo so I got a better radio (spectrum dx5c), a shorty battery, and the truck for the same price as the TRX4. The Axial was nice, but the ascender was very smooth. The traxxas was loud and kinda felt gritty for lack of a better term. Torque wise the tax was an animal. The ascender just seemed like the most truck for the money and I didn't feel like I would throw away 1/2 of it to make it competitive. Time will tell. That bronco is sweet and the details are very nice. They really went all out on this truck and it shows. The little voice in my head that pays for repairs told me to use the "kiss" method, so the ascender won out.

I hear ya. Competing brands helps the consumer out in many ways. Horizon already owns several brands and losing Axial to that could damage what actuallly makes it a great company. I would just like to see Axial stick around and use better quality plastic on their suspension related pieces.

I wonder how the auction went for Hobbico yesterday. I been balls deep into my rc stuff. I build up my trx4 pretty decent but the snow came and I have not been able to take it out in awhile. I have a local track and been racing my slash like crazy. Time to build a buggy. Also the new Erevo is pretty legit. If anyone wants to bash I would say that be the truck to get.

Mergers are never a great outcome. Axial is needed to keep the vaterra honest and vice versa. Parts will be stream lined. Inventory will be kept up with. This is a great time to be traxxas with their trx4 coming in.

I like my Trx4 a lot. It has been a lot of fun. I have wanted an axial to do a good scale build as I think the aftermarket is better for it.
