Took it to work the other day and during a lull in the action, did donuts on the floor. Jumped it into the shop. Of course, might be better in 2s mode then but damn, that was fun. A crate came the other day...jumps!

Slow motion makes anything look good.

I'm pretty sure whoever did that UDR video took some inspiration from BJ Baldwin in Cuba last year:

Today I drove to my LHS, The Crawl Space, about an hour away. Ikaika and I had spoken last week about the different models and the upgrades that each had or was missing. I spent about an hour reading through the instructions, looking over the RTR, and organizing my tools and parts to begin the bolt on process. The remainder of my afternoon was spent pulling off new parts and replacing them with my preferred setup.

From the get go I wanted to run my Spektrum radio instead of the RTR Tactic unit. I have a Yeti jr and was not impressed with that radio. I put in a sr415 to pair with my DX4C. I also knew that the front axle was missing an upgrade. I went ahead and grabbed a pair of Boom Racing universal shafts to replace the stock dog bones up front for increased durability and steering angle. I am going to run PitBull Rock Beast XL tires and didn't have high hopes for the servo and larger tires with the increased steering angle so I grabbed a Hitec 7954 SH servo with a new servo horn. I figured with the upgraded servo that I should probably take care of the front shock hoops too. The LHS was out of a lot of Vanquish stuff I had hoped for but I grabbed a pair of shock hoops by Team Raffee. I got this all put on and Ikaika helped me here and there. I think I have a really solid rig and once the wheels i have ordered come I will get these CI foams and PitBull tires on. I think the new plastic links are cool in shape much more realistic, but I am going to need a metal link setup soon. I also got a new body to paint silver, first lexan paint job but we will see how it goes.

Reviews after some run time to come.

Do you ever finally get kit cred with an rtr? How much has to be taken off and put back on before I've essentially built the kit? Someone I overheard was talking down on rtr vs kit recently and I've began to wonder these things

I decided I am going to go to the LHS Friday night comp crawl again starting this week. I want to wait on my wheelset to wheel the new scx10ii honcho but I kept looking at the beat up original scx10 honcho body and couldn't stand it any longer. I've had a new body put away with paint, but I had never done any of the body process. I had tools and supplies to do the single color I wanted but lacked the knowledge. I watched a few videos of the process and went to work on trimming the body and decals yesterday. I waited until the wind died down this evening and then began washing the lexan and masking off areas. I gave it three light coats of silver then backed it with two coats of black to make the interior pop when I begin that process down the road. I need to work on a lot of this procedure still like trimming the decals and laying them straight without getting finger prints on them, trimming wheel arches, etc. Overall though I am happy with how it came out. Not factory perfect but good enough to make me feel like I accomplished something.

I still don't think I could build a kit without any help. Setting gear mesh, and other little things like which direction to mount a servo start to trip me up after working on these trucks too long. I need to work on my patience and soldering too. I don't think everyone should have to buy and build a kit to enjoy this hobby or these trucks. I know I enjoy the hell out of mine and don't agree with the guy I overheard.

Keep wrenching on it and you’ll soon be ready for a kit.

Bought as a Deadbolt and painted a couple different style bodies. All the electronicsare actually still stock, only moved battery location and changed to a metal steering link.

Kits aren't a difficult thing, just a matter of what you really want to put in it. For me it wasn't worth it unless I was going to spend some coin on a nice 5-6 channel remote for accessories.

Anybody ever try plastidipping a Lexan body? Got a new body for my slash and nobody makes a tan/fde spray. Got a can of camo tan plastidip from Pepboys last night and gonna give it a shot this weekend. Worse case scenario it looks like shit and I'll peel it off and start over.

Yep. I use black Plastidip for the undercoat on the bodies I’ve painted.

5 layers of Performix Camo Tan later... this body has so many nooks and crannies that I had to blast point-blank with the nozzle because the plastidip just wasn't going in there. I think I may lay down a flat black just to darken it up a tad.

I once used a temporary tattoo on the inside of a lexan body and then painted on top of it, it turned out good and never had it peel or anything. Just throwing out a random idea

The comparison to the ARRA Talion cannot be overlooked. However, this the is way more torquey and will lift the front end no problem. Suspension is also different.
