@mcm808 when I was looking around I had my eyes on 3. SCX10.II, Traxxas TRX-4, and the Element RC Enduro. Actually they are the only ones I did a lot of research on lol.

I’ve heard SCX10.II is good. Lots of aftermarket parts available so you can mod it how ever you’d like. Lots of people have them.

TRX-4 is a little more $. But I’ve heard it’s really sold (but a little on the heavier side). The defender model has locking/unlocking diffs and two speed transmission. Some people like it, others think it’s more stuff that’ll break. The Sport model is cheaper with a regular single speed trans and the diffs are locked all the time. All the extra electronics are cool but I was leaning towards the Sport.

Element RC is a new company started from Associated Electrics and I’ve heard and seen a lot of good stuff from them. A lot of parts are compatible from the SCX10.II so there is a lot of upgrade you can throw on. I like that it has behind the axle steering and comes with overdrive out of the box and a couple other things. I would’ve bought the Enduro if I didn’t get the VS4-10.

Now, I am a noob too and this is my first RC. I’m a mechanic and I like tinckering with stuff so I went with a kit so I can see how everything goes together. I went with the VS4-10 because it comes with a lot of upgrades out of the box like machined parts (a lot of the RC stuff is plastic and I knew I would want to upgrade my RTR as soon as I go it) and a lot of the stuff that comes with this kit is what I would’ve upgraded to so I just said what the hell and bought it. Can’t wait to drive this thing!

That vs410 needs wheels and tires and foams but other wise is a complete setup already upgraded as you mentioned. The Traxxas is a great rig. It doesn't compete like the others due to the portals. Set it up too high and needs to be worked out with chassis geometry. Stock Traxxas servos suck bad too.

Thanks for the info and insight bro! Ive been leaning towards the scx10.II but will start looking into the enduro also.

I have a ten year old SCX10 chassis kit that I still run, and have been looking at something new to build on. And as someone that loves Axial R/C, it pains me to say I think they are being left behind, but still the best supported in the aftermarket.

I myself will likely go with a TRX-4 roller kit, but if I was to buy an RTR today it would be the Element Enduro.

I think it, in RTR form, is the best value out there (not saying the TRX-4 Sport RTR isn't either). Metal links & shocks, BTA steering, overdrive, LED's in the headlights, Associated electronics, 5-pole motor... Plus they just released a rear cage kit for $36 so you could make it look like a Honcho without much investment.
True, it doesn't have portals but you can't miss what you never had

Been almost 2 years since I have run my Wraith. Visiting Colorado for the week and brought it along. You mountain folks have a much better playground that we do in the Midwest.

I can respect that since I like to do the same. My fun here was short lived, however. I lost a screw on the servo mount and now have no steering. I knew I should have brought my toolbox. Hopefully the hardware store in Estes Park has some screws I could use - or maybe I could temporarily fix it with zip ties. I think its time to upgrade to a beefier servo mount...

TRX-4 Sport kit is on order, along with a Holmes 550 21t Trailmaster, and a Hobbywing 1080 ESC.

Now to decide on what color to paint it. I'm thinking Pro-Line's Mojave Sand, or Primer Grey. I'd paint it orange to match my Tacoma, but I don't think bright colors translate well to scalers.

Here's my SCX10 though painted as close as possible to match my F-100. Body is an older Pro-Line shell meant for an E-Maxx:

I painted and added the stickers to the 2nd gen T4R body I’ve had for months. I’m happy with the results.

how am i just now seeing this thread!!!! been into RC for 20 years.... been in the crawler game since it started. Had a TLT-1 axle based crawler with a stampede trans, 55t lathe motor and a custom plate chassis back in the day. Raced 1/10th buggies at the local track back before brushless was a thing haha. Got out of the rc game for awhile. then like 4 years ago i picked up an axial bomber kit, paired with a sensored brushless setup.

Ye Ole TLT (shoulda never sold it.... sigh)
    IMG_0013.jpg

The current cralwer... the Axial Bomber
    IMG_20190622_185504743_HDR.jpg

Also grabbed a slash 4x4 earlier this year, its essentially stock, just tuned up suspension and replaced driveline parts... 3s lipo is hard on the bitch.
