I've only seen a couple of posts but not sure. He's been pretty silent since Covid started.

The plastic gear in my transmission for my 1/24 scale Losi Trail Trekker is broken and they discontinued making these so there are no replacement parts. Does anyone know if another transmission from a different brand work?

I'm not familiar with that kit, but you might try eBay for that piece. Sometimes you can find non working kits for spares too.
I've been looking into 3d printers so I can start making my own spares.

I already tried Ebay and Amazon, no luck. I ordered an Axial SCX24 RTR in the meantime.

The small pinion gear can be replaced using the metal gear from a 1/10 servo motor. Be careful when you solder it or if the shaft hole is slightly smaller you can heat it enough to press the motor shaft into it sometimes. If it’s the spur there were some alternatives out there once upon a time. If internal…good luck.

It's the one I circled here. 14t pinion gear. You said for this gear, I can find a gear on a 1/10 servo motor?

You don't need the motor to get the gear. Your local hobby shop should have one.

I don’t think it’s that many teeth. Likely the 10 tooth one. It’s been many moons since I put one in. Not all 1/10 servos have a metal gear either.

Look for any micro pinions. Any hobby shops near by?

OK, thanks guys. I'm going to take the transmission into the closest hobby store and see if they have a replacement gear for it.

If you buy a cheap RC car without a controller, how hard is it to find a controller for it? As in, cheap $50 car from Amazon, but you bought the car only for $3.

If it uses a proprietary radio then it could be difficult. If it has the standard style receiver that the servo and moto connect to using. 3 lin connectors, then it's easy

Which one do you have? Do you have a link to the car you want to buy?

I bought the car for $3 without a controller. If I can’t get it to work, it’s only $3 and he can still play with it. But I’ve also thought about buying another and building a Frankenstein car.
