We go bashing with a group atleast every other weekend on Sundays. Often times we'll pull out some cars during the week and race through the neighborhood or in out backyard which is turf and we use some 2wd buggies with carpet tires.

That's awesome! I will ALWAYS cherish race weekends with my son. Over the years we raced asphalt on-road, 1/10 clay and turf and 1/8 ebug, nitro bug and etrug. Around the time he was 13 I retired from racing 1/8 scale to be his full time mechanic so he could concentrate on nitro and ebug. He was definitely fast, but was getting burned out. At 15 years old he decided to get out of racing all together as none of his high school buddies were in the hobby. Plus he was getting into the next phase of his life, autocrossing his real car. :burnrubber: He's 18 now with no intent on getting back into RC racing. But he did just buy a Mini Z and still has his 1/14 LC Racing buggy that he bashes with every now and again.

He's autocrossing an '07 Mazda 3. He's super proud of it as he's done a lot of work to get it road worthy.IMG_2390.jpg

I'm running an '11 BMW 335i, which also needed a lot of work when I bought it a few years ago. It was leaking EVERY fluid you can think of on a car, except for the rear diff. LOL.

Back to RC, a few weeks ago I did get back to racing 1/8 ebug with an HB E819RS after a year and a half hiatus. Proud to say I took first in my class with it! Ok, it was the B-main, but hey, a win is a win!

Awesome. Congrats on the win. I'm not too up on the HB models but I know like a little over a year ago, it seemed like a bunch of guys switched over to the HB 1/8 buggy and really liked it. I felt like I was in the minority w/ the 8ight X/E, as no one had them once the Tekno and HB were out. Now all of those guys are over on Xrays. I can't be bothered to keep changing lol.

My son and I were "brand loyalists" based on what vehicles worked for us and the amount of support we got from the local team drivers. Like you said, in the past year the local HB guys have really stepped up their game and I really like their ebug. Years ago, in 1/10 on-road, we ran Schumacher for a long time, but switched to XRay because of great team support. Around the same time we switched to XRay from Losi for 1/10 dirt and clay. When we transitioned to 1/10 turf we stuck with XRay and raced 1/8 with Mugen (even built a few Mugen SC trucks!). We were die-hard in the Mugen Mafia! Haha! The 1/8 XRay stuff was just too rich for our blood. LOL. Then we made a big switch to Associated for turf and 1/8, and we completely stopped racing on-road. When my son got out I switched to Tekno with an ET48.x and loved it. Oh, I still have my AE B6.2 for turf. I also still have my Tamiya Euro Truck and Spec Slash. These two classes get more laughs on the stand than any other class I've raced. It's not that I switch brands because of the latest trend, it's just that every now and again I like a change of pace to rethink my setup and driving. Like one season in on-road, I switched from XRay to Yokomo. I was doing OK with the BD7, but ended up going back to XRay. Will I go back to Tekno for 1/8? I'll never say never, but right now the HB fits me pretty well. I do have a few crawlers, some bashers and shelf queens, but I'll save those discussions for another day. ;)

Quick question for those of you more experienced than myself. I'm working on a crappy rock racer and since the electronics were junk, I went ahead and put a HW 880 esc (dual motor) in it. It seemed to work great, until I went uphill for too long, then it'll crap out for a few seconds before I hear the ESC restart. At first I thought it was either the low voltage protection or possibly overheating, but I disabled the LVC and felt to see if the esc was hot, and it was still cool to the touch. After bench testing it with the motors stalled, I realized the battery is what was heating up. I hooked a multimeter up to it and it read about 4amps max draw when stalled. Considering this is an 80Amp ESC, am I just running into a battery limitation? I'm a bit confined for space, but I could fit a larger capacity and up to 4s in there just fine. This is where my inexperience really comes through. The battery in it now is a no name Chinese 2s 500mAh that came with my WPL hilux. Without a disclosed C rating, would it be calculated as (max continuous current draw/capacity)? In this case a lousy 8C? Assuming I stay at 2S, the other batteries I could fit would be 2000mAh anywhere from 10-40C. Is the C rating what's killing me here, or should I step it up to a 3 or 4S? Any input is appreciated.

Sounds like the 500mah battery (fuel tank) capacity is way too small for your needs/setup. You need a larger capacity lipo. The C rating is just the rate at which the battery can safely discharge or power the vehicle and it's not that important unless you're racing and looking for every advantage.

    https://www.radiocontrolinfo.com/information/rc-calculators/calculate-the-real-lipo-c-rating/

What charger do you have? Can you charge a 3s/4s with your current charger? What lipo battery connectors do you have?

I'd suggest you start with a 2s 2000-5000mah lipo like this:
    https://www.amainhobbies.com/ecopow...se-lipo-battery-7.4v-5000mah-ecp-5110/p536775

Bigger battery is just more weight to carry around and longer charge times.

    Lipo's explained...
    https://www.rogershobbycenter.com/lipoguide

    1000mAh = 1 Amp Hour (1Ah)

You should check all your esc settings too as the hw 880 says it has 9 levels of punch acceleration. Probably don't need full blast for crawling.

Unfortunately I cant cram a 5000mAh in there, but I could probably get a 2000mAh to fit. Right now my only lipo chargers are the ones that came with the scx24s, as my bigger crawlers all use nimh batteries. I really should pick up a proper lipo charger, but they've been working fine for my other smaller vehicles. Right now the punch setting is in the middle where it was from factory about 40-50% I think. I ran through the settings with the program card and got it all set up for crawling as opposed to the racing settings it comes with. Thanks for the info, I'll pick up quality charger and a bigger battery and see if that does the trick.
Is there some way to actually test that? As far as I know having a balance plug makes a lipo haha. I've been charging them with the axial scx24 chargers as they seem to work great. Would I be able to charge a nimh off of a lipo charger like that?

I did some rearranging of the guts in the truck and ordered the biggest 2s I could. A 2s 1500mAh 25-35C discharge. I did find one 2000mAh battery that would fit, but it was a receiver battery, so I figured I'd not risk it. We'll see how it goes.

My first was a Schumacher Top Cat back about 1990. Still have 2.
Had cars, trucks, boats, crashed heli and planes back pre drone era, never got into drones.

New Axial scx24 made it a couple weeks before it got a few mods, now if i can get the C-10 body back on without a major chop job will be something.
These little crawlers are pretty cool.

Picked these up for my knightrunner. They are pretty close to the TRD beadlock. I'm going to paint the rings and put black bolts to match my real ones. 20221009_150637.jpg
