Definitely one of the race kits from Losi, Tekno or Team Associated built to spec with whatever you want. For an RTR probably the Savage over the Traxxas stuff although my nitro rustler was an absolute blast and my favorite until I ran it into a curb. :rofl:I think I got almost 3 gallons of nitro through it before that happened and then I decided to leave it on the shelf where it's been for over a decade.

HPI Savage's are cool if you work the factory faults out of them...

Yeah, I bought one the 2.5 Revos when they first came out. It was a lemon out of the box. Out of 3 the nitro t-maxx's, nitro rustler and nitro revo 2.5 I've owned the 2.5 Revo was the biggest piece of :poking:. I abandoned Traxxas after that.

We have been fighting the battle with her Jato. When it ran last, it was fantastic. But it has sat for the last few years and we are having a heck of a time getting it to start again. Put a new glow plug in it with fresh VP fuel yesterday. Then the one way bearing decided to take a crap and one of the connectors on the wiring harness for the easy start broke (after we tried to bypass the wand because the battery didn't seem to be giving it enough juice.) and the ez start motor started smoking...

I am seriously considering doing this on her Jato. Did it make yours easier to start? We have had a heck of a time getting the Ez start system to work correctly. Just seems like it would eliminate one of the major variables. Then it would just be a matter of getting the plug hot and pulling on the rope til it starts. For the price of the ez start motor I could pick up a pull start kit.

I had my lipo go bad for my Maxx and that's why I was thinking about if I wanted to get into something else before buying another. But after thinking on it, I am just going to keep the Maxx. I like it. So I did buy an Xtreme Racing battery tray, to get rid of the stock door system. Then I can share batteries with my TLR 1/8 buggy. That makes it easier, then to have to buy another battery specifically for that truck. So that's what I'm going to do.

Prolly the best HPI savage video I've seen.
Mine was an even earlier edition with the pull start 3.5 nitro two speed. Kit form, no servo's or receiver, nothing but bags of parts.
It shifted fine, never had diff problems or any other broken parts.
Tuning the engine was a complete shit show.
Later upgraded to the 3 speed transmission, never saw 3rd gear.
Best upgrade I ever did was converting it to brushless on dual 4000mah 3S packs and ditched all the silly transmission and brake bs.
Thing will flip on it's back even with the added wheelie bar. Total blast in the snow.
I like nitro, but electric is MUCH faster and easier to deal with

It hasn't made it easier to start, just bypassed electronics that could give out. If tuned it'll start right away, but if not it won't start. The motor likes warm weather.

Truck actually shows up tomorrow so I can finally get measurements and start brazing the frame for the softopper. Oh, and play with it and stuff, I guess.

Quick rant and then looking for opinions. So I re-entered racing and general track practice, years back. There was a track near my office so I would go after work and race occasionally. Went through a bunch of cars and built up a nice line-up. Then COVID hit and now I work from home. So on the plus side, I no longer have to make the ridiculous commute to work (60mi highway 1 way) but the downside is I don't go to the track very often. There was another small outdoor near me that tried to keep going after COVID but that sort of ended them. So I really have no places to run within an hour of me. Plus, now I have a kid etc. So I use my bashers but I have all of my track cars just sitting. I've been to the track maybe 5 times in the past 2 years. I sort of want to sell them or at least some of them, but at the same time, I get sort of attached to them and like just having the small collection. I feel like most people just sell them and it is what it is. I'm just having a hard time doing that, but I know that it's sort of pointless, as I will likely not be going to the track as often again.

I use my Traxxas Maxx often and some other bashers. But I have a TLR 22 5.0 mod car, a 4.0SR 17.5 car. Those would be the ones most likely on the block because if you aren't racing 2wd, they serve no other purpose. Then I have my EB410.2 which was my main race car. I'd have a tough time selling that. And the ET410 which I use outside of the track from time to time and used often at races. Then the TLR 8ight-X which I would keep since 1/8 are just cool to take for a rip or track day. I know my buddy sold everything and doesn't care. I have a hard time doing that lol.

I think the deciding factor for me would be whether they are being stored in a dark closet or sitting on a display shelf where I can at least visually enjoy them. I go through the same thing with the drones I built (but have too many restrictions to fly) and even my childhood train set. Some pieces are nice enough to display on a shelf, some sit buried for a potential future project that might never come.

Good point. I have a small storage room in the basement. Part of it has my RC work desk and there is a shelving unit that they sit on. So not hidden away or on display. Just kind of in limbo about getting rid of all my 2wd stuff to downsize, or just have it and on the rare occasion that I get to track, I have it to run. Tough choice. Just was curious if most guys just sell it while the models still have value or just keep them.

Do you have enough backyard to build your own mini track?
Then you can race with your kid.

+1 For building something of your own. I really enjoyed making my own tracks as a teen. It's a lot easier than digging new bike trails, I can tell ya that.

Well, that was a pretty fun build, especially for my first kit. I still have to order the electronics, but everything is together. I am dreading the painting, but atleast the body tubing can be dyed. This thing is huge though, even compared to my ridgerock which is already pretty big for a 1/10 rig. Currently taking suggestions on color(s).

I was considering leaving it the oe color, but in person it looks more like a primer grey than the nice white it appears as in pictures.
I'm far too inept for that, I'm more of a spray paint only kinda guy haha. I've got a MORRvair body for an SCX24 sitting around waiting for me to learn how to actually paint stuff like models. I was thinking something bright, but there's so many options even in that category. So far my friends have suggested bright orange like the one you can buy rtr and this maui blue:

At our cabin we have area but I mostly run my bashers up there. I am hanging on to my Mini ERevo for my son to have. And I have the Maxx. So that'll likely be what we do. He has a while until he will be ready to do any track time, still.

I ended up talking to my buddy, who is well-known at our track. Just asked him if anyone is interested in a 2WD package deal. If he knows of anyone, tell them to shoot me an offer. If someone up there gives me an offer that sounds good then I'd maybe do it. Otherwise, I'll just keep them. Even though it's not really about the money really. So chances are I'll just hang onto them. Lol.

Also, I think that battery strap comes today for my Maxx, so hopefully I can get that installed tonight or by the weekend. Will be nice to be able to use my other 4s batteries.

I have a very similar version of the dewalt, but it has the gyro in it so you twist the way you want the bit to go and the more angle you give increases speed of the driver. I drive my screws in 90% with it and then hand tighten them to snug to avoid stripping things out.
