What battery do you recommend for the Knightrunner? What's the run time on a 7.4 volt 2S pack? Sorry, still kind of new to the RC world.

Runtime is determined by battery capacity (in mah). A 5000 mah pack will have more run time than a 3000 mah pack. Voltage will determine how much power the truck will have (and with lipos, each cell or S is 3.7V, so 2S = 7.4V and 3S = 11.1V and so on).

For a crawler/trail truck, they use such little power that you can get 1+ hour out of a 4000mah pack. Of course, things like vehicle weight, lights, servos, etc will make that vary but in general they're easy on batteries. You also don't need to worry about discharge rate (C rating) since they're so slow.

For this one I'm running a 4500mah 3S "shorty." I personally like the 3S over the 2 because it opens up a little bit of speed for those times you want to hoon it across a field. And by speed I mean even with the motor swap I'm getting roughly 10-15 mph depending on terrain. The truck does come with a standard long-format battery tray, which makes sense. Last I looked 3S shortys are hard to find, and are generally more expensive. Either battery type will fit.

I also swapped the Tx/Rx to a unit that has two way telemetry, so that my controller displays the truck's battery voltage. With as heavy as mine is, I get between 30 minutes and an hour before it's low enough to bring it back in.

The knightrunner is really an odd duck. It's not nearly the most capable amongst RC crawlers (which in some ways that makes it more fun - you really have to be selective and more realistic to scale when picking your approach). It's been described as a trail truck - something that is fun to take on a hiking path. I find it's kind of a mix, it can do a fair bit of crawling, it can annoy your dog in the backyard, or you can sit in your favorite chair at the campsite and zip it around in circles. And for me personally it's been fun trying to model out the softopper and the interior details to make it match the big truck. For someone who no longer brings the drones anywhere (good luck finding airspace that won't piss anyone off anymore), it's been a good one to get back into the world of wheeled toys.

Although I've got a few crawlers/scalers, I've never been really active in that side of the hobby. Since I don't really "crawl" the Enduro Knightrunner, it's been relegated to dog-chasing duty in my yard. LOL. I had planned on running 3S in this thing, but I've been using 2S shorties. Being Associated, spurs from my B6.2 buggy fit right in. So to get more speed I slapped in the small spur and a 35T pinion (I can still go bigger). Stock motor and ESC have no problem pushing this thing. Obviously it's no speed demon, but it makes it more fun for me.

What's cool about the Knightrunner body is that the headlight decals can be peeled off and light buckets can be installed. I printed up the files from Knight Customs for the TRD grill and buckets, but have yet to install them. I did mask off the body and painted the fender flares and bed, but if I had to do it again I would've used flat black instead of semi-gloss.

My kiddo got this one from Santa (he is friends with my mother in law ;))

we had so much fun that got me thinking in to building one from scratch. I start the research and came across this guy on YouTube (https://youtube.com/@WafflesRC-pb4nt?si=_HRuG16eq8nzmzkz) but the parts list put me at around 500 Dlls and to be honest kind of scared me since I don’t know jack about RC so I throttle back down and settle for the RTR Axial Capra UTB 18. Man!, That thing is fun! We been building obstacles in the living room in the afternoon to tackle some crazy lines. So it seems that once I’m done with my truck I’ll be starting with a full RC build.

here’s I am doing the first yard run.

I seem to have accidentally started another micro drift build. I saw this and couldn’t resist:

    upload_2024-1-11_9-32-8.png

I just need a receiver and motor/esc to finish it but will hold off on those till I get the car.

I also ordered new shocks for the 1/10 drift car for $180.

It should be adjustable! Wheelbase should be 92-110 mm or so, and width should be adjustable with different wheels. I’ll measure everything once I get it though.

Super sold if I can run a static scale model body. Doubt it, but there’s always a chance.

You totally can! I confirmed its fully adjustable and will fit 1/24 to 1/28 scale bodies.

Things have escalated quickly here... As of Dec 2022 I had an Axial Yeti Jr and Traxxas TRX-4M Defender (plus an abomination of XMods that were partially/marginally functional).

Then RC4WD sent me a C2X to test and play with. It sent my love for all things RC into a tornadic spiral.

Then in 12/2023 I bought a FMS FCX24 Power Wagon.
Then I fell in love with scale rock crawling after the C2X made a sucker out of me.

Well, I have no self restraint. I ordered a black/green (Off the Road Again Podcast colors!) Axial AX24 from Amazon, which was somewhat "broken" out of the box. Ordered another (very orange) and had other issues. But... I love the AX24's four-wheel-steer and amazing out-of-the-box suspension travel. Might keep it. TBD...

Winter called and I ordered a couple of the 1/28 Team Associated things to play with, an MT28 and SC28 for me and my brother. For $60/ea., the worst that happens is we return them to Amazon. Thanks, annual fee!

Also... have an E-Revo 1/16 VXL on the way. Hopefully arriving soon. Loooooooooong overdue for a proper basher, and been debating between this and other comparable models for weeks/months. The MERV seemed like a good "no headaches" choice.

    Moment of reflection...

When I was a kid, RC cars were my favorite thing in the world. I was a "sports kid" in that I loved baseball and football etc, but radio-controlled toys really were my calling. Back then, in the '90s, it was barely a hobby in the area I lived in. Might not be much different now, but I enjoy it possibly even more... sharing it with friends, family, and loved ones really is special. This new world that I'm playing in is special in that same way.

    I love this.

Blast from the past... My older brother got me this for Christmas (1985) and I've been lugging it around the country as I've grown up/moved ever since.

1985 Kyosho/Cox Ultra Stock Stadium Racer. Chassis is Kyosho Icarus/Pegasus. Motor is Mabuchi 540... still works and I've had to do some part swaps over the years so it's not 100% original but close. Not worth much in the market place but nostalgic to me and "Toyota" so I love it.

Yes, it all still works. I learned very quick that the speed control/coil will definitely make one's skin go snap, crackle, pop. Haha

I am thinking of getting a 1/16th scale slash. I have 4 stadium trucks already... but none of them are small, and how could you go wrong for $200. Anyone have experience with them.
