It depends on the kind of terrain you usually crawl on. I have some trucks I set up to be pretty stiff to get as much ground clearance as reasonable for boulder fields. I also have others that I like to practically sit on the "bump stops" to keep my COG as low as I can for steep climbs. In general, I tend to prefer softer springs with heavy wheels because typically if I belly out, there's enough droop in the suspension and weight over the tires to keep going. Also, I've never cared what kind of oil is in my shocks, I don't even care if they have oil at all. As far as I'm concerned, that's for fast stuff.

I'm switching to a "medium foam" on the rear and keeping the soft in the front tires. I'm also going to move the rear shock mounts eventually.

Assembling some new Injora Turbine wheels and RC4WD KO2s for my C2X. And a fun size comparison while assembly is a WIP, shows the difference between 1/10 and a 1/18 rig pretty well.

Just started getting back into my rc stuff. Going to try and get the Savage going again. But was thinking of maybe buying a crawler. Was going to get an SCX24 but starting thinking maybe 1/10 is the way to go. Only reason I was looking at the SCX24 is it can be used just about anywhere. And if I don't really like it I'm not out that much money. Was looking at the Carisma Tacoma(for obvious reasons, lol), but it was also one of the cheaper 1/10's. But also want to get something that is upgradable if I do like it. I know there is plenty of aftermarket support for the Axials but wasn't sure about Carisma. I guess I'm just looking for some info/opinions on both. Thanks!

I'd get the axial over a charisma. The scx24 for me was fun but I didn't like modding it due to tiny parts so it never took off for my interest. 1:10 scale is best outdoors imo and easy to deal with small parts too

I concur. I like love Redcats and do recommend them. However, I can find upgrades for them but I see parts for Vanquish, Axial, and Traxxas everywhere. Plus the selection of parts available for those brands is crazy!

I'm curious to see how vanquish does any aftermarket moving forward.... Also curious what axial releases next. They seem to be closing in on end of life for the iii and vanquish is focused on their own and not the aftermarket it seems

Well decided to try putting together my first body for my SCX10. I bought the Proline Tacoma with LED light kit. Turned out pretty good and it reminded me of my 2010 Tacoma which met an unfortunate demise from a hit-n-run driver. Gonna take it out this weekend for it's first crawl!

20240707_065742.jpg 20240707_065948.jpg Made the body a magnet mount style to the flatbed. Oh, and a bunch of cutting on the body and undercarriage.

And added a little bit more than a pound of brass last night.

Current scx10 that is my beater and a blast! Newest toys is the MST RMX 2.5 drifter and had to get the GR86 body but also picked up a R34 body. Currently working on the mag mounts and then time to drive sideways

When you are ready to hit up scale science and drift let me know. I need to drive again myself and haven't come down in a long time.

Crawl at the crawl space or TGH clubhouse, drift at scale science or the new place south of Castle Rock I believe too

I've got a bunch of projects going on, but here's my old Clodbuster that I'm reviving. I originally built it 27 years ago. It's been through several iterations, including an ESP Clodzilla IV chassis and cantilever suspension. It's been sitting on shelf for more than 12 years and I decided to finally do something about that. I went back to the stock chassis, drew up and printed a number of custom parts (more on them in another post) and painted a Traxxass Bigfoot body. I still have to solder up some old Trinity brushed motors and tidy up some wiring, but it'll be romping through the backyard soon!

Spent a few minutes playing with the Redcat Ascent 1/18 that finally arrived this past weekend.

Very much enjoying it, the performance is pretty good out of the box. Good low speed control, decent top end (for a stock truck), steering is decent, etc. Obviously needs weight down low, and I have to do something about the tires rubbing on the fenders. It is constant... basically every time it flexes, rubber hits lexan.

Otherwise, it's a good time. Maybe I just like having something stock? It's like a no-effort experience. Just mess around and play with it, no worries about parts breaking etc.

All-in-all, pleased thus far, just need to sort the rubbing issue somehow. But considering I ordered and paid for it in March this is not a disappointment for indoor crawling being that it's a million degrees outside here the last few days.

I picked up a scx10iii Basecamp builders kit a couple weeks back when they were on sale. I'd never built an scx10 III, not much different than an scx10 or an scx10 II though. Have enjoyed picking away at it all week. May put some 2nd hand wheels I picked up on it. Curious how big the trepador tires are. I did score 3 bodies on prime day and a tig welder. May try to learn to build a rear bed for the cliffhanger cabs similar to the honcho rear.

They are great out of the box for sure! Mine is almost completely upgraded now:

    upload_2024-7-19_17-31-2.png

I put the Injora TRX4M IR40 body on it, metal links, 1.3" wheels and 70mm tires, Furitek brushless system and all the Injora brass parts. Only thing I need now is a new servo (thinking NSDRC RS100).

My FCX24 got metal transmission gears and a new yellow hood to replace the grey one I just broke that replaced the original yellow hood I also broke. :D

    upload_2024-7-19_17-32-41.png

I need to get another motor/esc/servos for this thing to replace the stock electronics too.

    I also got this yesterday:

    upload_2024-7-19_17-33-23.png

And it's probably my most favorite RC I've ever owned. Definitely up there in the fun department. Got new batteries coming in because it chews through its battery too quickly.
