They can be refilled if you want but the springs are still quite soft.

So I finished the brushless swap:

    IMG_4429.jpg

The nice thing about the Grom is almost everything is a 2.0mm hex head bolt, so it’s quick to remove hardware. Getting the center plate off (that covers the driveshaft and motor mount) was pretty difficult but I eventually was able to pry it off.

I didn’t realize how big the Hobbywing 10BL60 G2 WP is. It’s bigger than the 10BL120! The position in the picture was the only way I could mount it. I ended up 3D printing a little block to put under it to support it, and put the receiver in the battery tray. I also had to trim one of the plastic braces on the underside of the body a bit to get it to fit. I also removed the ESC fan but with how small the truck is I’m not worried about heat.

I’ll try it tonight and report back!

Curious how you like it with brushless. I had a 1/16 E-Revo briefly that I ran on a 3S brushless system, was so unstable with the speed and power that it lost the fun both on and off road.

I’m going to stick with 2S for now. It’s already a handful since I put stiffer springs on so we’ll see.

That should help! I think I'm back leaning on a mini Traxxas TRX-4M, less power and chance of me going too far with it, along with the original intention of it being for my 2 yo.

I'm happy with my MERV VXL's power 95% of the time. The other 5% I'd probably be better off with more ground clearance than the extra power.

That was part of my issue, comparing it to my 1/10 E-Revo which obviously did it / managed it all way better.

Sometimes I think I should have gone 1/16 Summit (or something from another brand) for the extra GC

Can swap the parts, easy enough conversion. All the 1/16 parts were interchangeable from what I remember, Rally / Slash / E-Revo / Summit.

Welp it's a handful. I think I went too stiff with the suspension. I'm going to try and get some softer springs from a friend and swap them this weekend and see if that helps. The truck basically spins out constantly.

Swapped some Injora wheels/tires I had lying around onto the Redcat. Less rubbing, more stability, better grip!

Now I’m feverishly trying to get my FCX24 back together and functional so I can take it on a beach trip next weekend. It’s the one I care about least in my collection so figure it’s the best to get subjected to the sand and salt haha

Also put the original Redcat wheels on the AX24 yesterday and found they don’t work as the hub on the Redcat set is too deep and won’t spin properly. Still, looks rad and the amount of flex the AX24 has with only Injora suspension on it (which only increased travel by maybe 5-10%) is absolutely insane. Thing almost needs limit straps.

I like it a lot. It's not remarkable in any way but it's just a good rig in general especially considering I got it for the $99 entry price. Definitely feels like a good crawler out of the box, the fundamentals like the wheelbase to track width ratio are all there, but also definitely recognize that beefing it up in any capacity for improved crawling abilities will very quickly kick the snowball effect into a tail spin; it's well-built but nothing feels all that beefy, so even heavier wheels/tires (the Injoras I swapped on are about the same weight as stock) will mean it needs a better servo, and needs more motor to move the extra weight, and needs better gears to handle it all, etc. I'm going to do my best to keep it stock and just have it as my mess around crawling truck that doesn't require thought or effort (the TRX4M and FCX24 both have become about as far away from stock as I have the time/effort/money to deal with as-is and both feel like much more serious crawlers) and just a fun few minutes here or there when the weather or time isn't cooperative enough to go outside or think about what else I need to tinker with to "get it set up just right" (which is how I feel every time I use the TRX4M).
