These Injora driveshafts are beefy! Unfortunately I stripped a grub screw while trying to take the old shafts off. Had to disassemble everything, pull the transmission and drill the screw out. Thankfully everything went back together fine.

    So, it's pretty damn fun!

However, in the amount of time I've played with it all over the house (along with my 1.5 year old chasing it everywhere) I can say this -

There's some noticeable driveline slop. Whenever I'm stopped, if I want to get moving in a smooth fashion, I really have to slowly come on the throttle otherwise I get a sudden jerk-reaction. I'm guessing some play somewhere between the diffs and/or driveshafts.

The turn signals, I just run them as flashing hazards. Not wanting to open her up to unplug them so I'll do that once upgrades come.

The ability to climb, even on tiny tires is freaking nuts! It flexes pretty damn good although I'll have to undo the rear spare since it gets caught up on steep climbs.

The tires. They feel small for a rig like this. But that could also be due to the fact that the rig sits so high so I'll need to upgrade to larger wheels and tires, as well as bringing down the ride height. The tires already rub on full lock so the body will need trimming as well.

For $99 though, holy shit it feels like a steal.

I'd bet that driveline slop is related to motor and esc.

I love this little guy. It truly crawls like an ant. I get about 20-30 minutes run time out of a 2s 200mah battery. I did order a pair of smaller single cells for it that will tuck in tighter, but now I'm not sure I want to bother changing them out. I cut off the wire clips on the transmission and that let these batteries sit better. Wire and shit is just gonna show no matter what at this scale. I've shortened everything but the servo cable.
If you check out the Furitek brushless rtr, it's packed tight too.
Ordered 5mm longer dual spring shocks for it. See if I can increase the 23mm of wheel travel. :D

I think it is drivetrain slop on the FCX's. It's like tolerance stacking in the portals/diffs/transmission, you can rock the truck back and forth with the power off considerably. You get used to it, but it does take some of the control out of going over obstacles.

I concur. All my experiences with portal rigs have been the same. Lots of play in the drive train but I really don't notice it on the run.

I should start crawling with mine again.

One of my favorite things was ripping donuts with the LGRP Grippers would make a distinct howl like real tires.

I wonder how these would do with a smaller tire and lowered bit. They look like they're a little top heavy?

I think a lot of the height comes from the portals. FMS had a "crappier" version a few years ago with straight axles and a lower ride height.

I think they have also come out with a straight axle FCX that may have compatible axles or outer axle pieces. Might be a pretty easy swap and just need to reverse motor direction.

I see FMS has started using counter rotating shafts. I wonder if it makes a difference?
That Camel Trophy Land Rover is looking pretty good. Looks to have plenty of fender room for bigger tires.
Those things were $150 a couple years ago with brass bushings in place of bearings, all plastic gears
Now $99, bearings throughout, metal gears, with an upgraded design.

None of my vanquish nor Axial portals have much slop id actually say I felt the 10.2 and capra portals were way tight almost too much without break in. The origin started to have great tolerances and the pinion gear shimming helped them all a bit. I haven't had any fcx yet but that is a bummer to hear

Ah, there's the key difference! I'm running on a budget rig.

I wish I had a Vanquish VRD, but that's not going to pass the appropriate approval from the CFO/Wife. I do have $250 of fun money saved for that dream rig already though! Hopefully nothing expensive breaks on my daily crawler before I get to $600.

The fcx portals definitely leave some things to be desired. I have one of the first generation Furitek caymans and have debated for a while if I should either axle swap it or just pull all the electronics and move on to another chassis.

Kiddo + RC is the best

Just wait until you start upgrading that thing (the RC, not the kid)... they can climb stuff you'd never expect them to be able to
