Associated has a nice-looking 240Z on the Apex2 chassis. Kyosho has a 240Z rally car on the Fazer chassis, too. But if referring to the Tamiya 240Z on the DF-03RA chassis, it's been discontinued and has been fetching crazy prices on Ebay.

The Ascent 18 is my first crawler so I don't have anything to compare to but it's been absolutely amazing straight out of the box. I have since upgraded parts but really all it needs is some unsprung weight (heavier wheels), some over drive gears and it's incredibly capable. Just gave mine a long over due cleaning and shock service

You know, now that you mention it I think it was a 240. I owned a 280 with an inline 6 back in the day so maybe everything is a 280 to me.

Looks awesome. I already ordered new weighted wheels & tires and stainless high clearance links from Injora. It's looking like the upgrades might get here
    before the truck does

Only other thing I reccomend are steel driveshafts. The factory one tends to come apart when in a bind. At least mine liked to.

6oz of paint (*enough to paint a 1.1 bed side) and several sandings, it turned out pretty good for my skill level. Trying to decide, either leave the flairs color matched, or brush paint them and potentially ftu.

All of the LED's for this kit are the tiny SMD's, except for the headlights, which are 4mm. I have no interest in fumbling around with nano sized lights and wiring, and screwing up paint.
I may still run the headlights, with a resistor to dim them down as DRL's. :notsure:

Got out yesterday for a Christmas crawler session with my custom LCG setup.

This thing does amazing and ruptures with 3d printed inserts work awesome even when wet and with sand on them.

I'm torn on running a little higher ride height for more ground clearance at the skid and how that will impact other things.

Also funny enough the little spring on my transmitter that self centers the steering wheel broke, at first it was a little weird but then I started to REALLY like not having a self centering function when driving the crawler, it's really nice to choose a steering angle and let it sit there without you having to hold it.

I've never owned an XV-02, but wouldn't mind building one eventually! The Pro version is the icing on the cake. Very cool! I love Tamiya's variety of otherwise unique chassis layouts. Outside of the TRF line, some were not so great performance wise. LOL. I had a TB04 that I raced in VTA years ago. Awesome chassis, easy to tune and handled awesome. But man, it was HEAVY. Even for the heaviest 1/10 on-road class you can race in! I regret getting rid of it, though.

Ha! I do the same thing. Those I6s sounded sooooo sweet.

Plus side, my shock mounts arrived

    20241226_084047.jpg

Downside, I have to buy shock fluid for the new shocks

The new setup flexes a ton better as the new shocks are 59mm vs the stock 48mm

    20241226_100319.jpg

    20241226_100244.jpg

Due to the mounting up top, I'll have to buy some small spacers to keep the top hat from rubbing the new mount

I'll also have to swap out the coils with the heavier set (included) but even then, the shocks don't rebound at all so I'm thinking something a tad heavier for oil

I think you're having a binding issue somewhere. Even soft springs regardless of the oil should bring the chassis up. Heavier springs just make it settle higher. IMO.

This should help - again flipping it over I can't see where it would bind at all anywhere and I even used the new links all around ensuring free movement.

I had to remove both the body and battery for it to rebound up front - with the body off alone the rear rebounds back pretty smoothly

Definitely too much weight for the current shocks and the oil used

Thinking I'll stop by the hobby shop to see what kind of springs they have, and also picking up some heavier shock oil.

Kind of surprised for a small upgrade I'm now going outside of "off the shelf" parts, but it was bound to happen sooner or later!

The FCX18 body is just way too heavy.

Apex 2 is more of an on road car. The XV has longer shocks, more suspension travel and the inner dust cover so it’s more ready for dirt.

You could buy a 240Z body and put it on the XV. The XV doesn’t come with a body. It also has to be built.
