I honestly could throw these into the comp build. I'm more than pleased with how it's been working on the Ascent. I'll see how fitment goes and go from there. Was leaning toward a lizard and komodo variant :notsure:

Oooh if you go Mini, you might be able to stick with the stock angled skid it comes with.

I can't recall where I saw it, but the Mini solved the issue of the upper links hitting the motor when they were fully tucked.

It's the main reason why I went with the Mini - I wanted minimal clearance issues.

And ended up with a longer wheelbase than when it started. I really didn't have a plan, just went with what I had on hand for materials. I think I'm gonna maybe shorten it.
I added 7mm to the front, and shortened the rear by 5mm, so it's only 2mm.

Mini was the plan. That's probably what I'll do and whichever motor I'm more comfortable with will stay in the motor. So long as there's no contact issues with the cedar

    @Strictlytoyz

Had a long chat via FB with Tyler (owns 828RC) as he is another member often recommended for custom links. I'll be ordering stainless steel links from him for the build.

He sent me a pic of one of his own rigs here -

    Untitled.jpg

But also, here he says what he does, and why -

I will also recommend a single bend rear upper, and single bend front upper along with the double bent rear lower. Ill break down the reasoning next.

Single bend front uppers on the ccv3 allow you to run the micro and mini komodo motors forward. The bend let's the link clear the motor.

The single bend rear upper will allow the rear upper to clear the rear double bent lower if you are running your suspension fairly low.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Seems the only thing he changes is the rear upper then? I believe both upper and lower rears are double bent with Mazz's links. Are you getting offset rod ends as well with that or straight?

Compared to Mazz, yeah pretty much.

I don't know if the ends are offset as I was basically just asking him to build me what I need for a performance-oriented rig using what I purchased - I sent him my whole build list.

It was almost 2am for him when I posted so I didn't want to keep asking more questions. I can find out tomorrow.

He did place emphasis on a straight link for the front lower though.

Something I remember several commenters mentioning in a youtube video or two, probably not realizing the "catch" the skid creates.

Stainless links being smooth would allow the truck to climb over an obstacle and not get bound up underneath.

Then again you and I are both new to this so we're probably talking about an issue we can't yet consider  I'll just take better lines.

The flex potential is there. Needs longer shocks. :p This stupid thing is consuming way too much of my time.
If I shorten the links front and rear by 5mm each, does that kill the flex? Knowing it has this much, and will never achieve it with current hardware, I think it prolly won't matter much.

LOVE my lil Redcat Ascent 18. Ill have to take some pics of how i moved things around for lower cg, better flex etc (all for essentially free).

The biggest upgrades I have done and really the only that are needed are links and driveshafts from injora. Stock tires are decent, but if you wanted a better softer tire with steel beadlocks these fit the truck great

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BNB8WLKD?ie=UTF8&th=1

Just make sure to drill the inner beadlock ring and inner rim half with a little hole to vent the tires.

People upgrade the stock electronics and I dont know why, the stock motor, esc, servo, battery are all dang good, plenty of torque and speed and if you wanted more you can run it on 3s lipo.

My Super 8 axles are being delivered today. Also put an order in for Injora 40mm big bore shocks and their gladiator length driveshafts. Been happy with their stuff on the ascent.

    What part number driveshaft?

I ask because I forgot what lead me to buy mine, and I don't even recall why I chose the set I did.

Think I went by their advertised lengths and compared them to Gladiator length driveshafts from another brand.

I think the "D" opening is standard.

    Think it's 6mm?

I haven't opened my transmission but the shaft has a D shaped shaft as well.

    That's smart.

Since I already have mine, once I mock up the chassis I can tell ya if mine work or not since we're pretty much running the same wheelbase.

Another weird thing is that in photos on lgrp's website it looks like inputs are "D" shape but all the photos of their driveshafts look to be "O" shape. :help:
I'll just wait and see when I get home from work.

    @Strictlytoyz

Not as fancy as your Flysky! But at least it's plenty quick and has just enough adjustment as I need
