Anyone use this or know of it?

    https://www.trailsoffroad.com

A buddy of mine that does GIS work sent it over said it was pretty good. I'm curious if any of the CO peeps use it. I went ahead and signed up for a free account, but I really like the Funtreks maps and will probably keep using that.

I've used a few of their .gpx files for Utah routes. Not bad for a free site.

www.traildamage.com is awesome but recently went to paid membership. I used this site for years. It has no ads so worth it if you wheel a lot. Miss when it was free though.

I use to use TrailDamage. I guess they didn't want to use ads revenue to pay for overhead (domain, website, etc) costs and instead is now charging their members. Not that I mind, but why pay when there's a free one and the ads aren't bothersome. TrailsOffroad is all I use now. Their files work perfectly for the navigation app I use. Plus, I know the owners and they're local to to me. So, I like supporting them.

It's funny because people complain about ads and then complain about subscriptions and no ads. People dont understand how these things work.

That being said I will try this new website and guessing they are Springs locals so that is cool.

It's hard to please everyone. But now, there are options for both types of people lol.

Keep in mind, TO free account doesn't get you full access to some features, which is $25/year. But they cover pretty much the entire US.

TD is pretty much Colorado and Utah. But you only pay $12/year for it.

Regardless, if you're gonna be stiff about the yearly charge you only have one option. I find even $25 over the period of a year is relatively cheap, even if you're only going to use it a couple times. Instead of eating out for dinner one night, make a sandwich at home and it balances out

Yes, some of the people who run and write for the site are on here. One of the main things they wanted to do to improve over TD was to have more current/frequent status updates for trails. Something hard to do with books and printed maps, though a number of those companies also offer gps information and such that might be updated more frequently.

Most of the TD guys are jeep. So it sounds like the TO guys are Toyota. Guess that's a plus. Ever since TD went monetary subscription they have added trails and updated them a bit.

The thing that has really killed TrailDamage is that the updates are only provided by certain TrailDamage members and membership is invite only. Still plenty of good info but it is nice to get up-to-date trail conditions and pics from TrailsOffroad

I've found that AllTrails is pretty good, once you figure out how to filter out for only 4x4 off road trails. That part is kind of convoluted. But it guided me through a few trails I've never been on with comment markers on turns and a lot of other info.

    Hey guys,

My name is John and I am the developer at Trails Offroad. First off, sincere thanks to everyone who uses the site and reps us. Nothing puts a smile on my face faster than to hear someone uses Trails Offroad to find their adventures.

Business-wise, Trails Offroad is 2 people. It is myself doing all of the coding, and the founder, Todd Taylor, who runs all other aspects of the business. We have been blessed to find a solid group of guys who have been working for free to provide their time and energy to go out on their weekends, map the trails, and keep them updated. We strive for QUALITY and CONSISTENCY over QUANTITY. There is a reason we do not accept crowd-sourced trail guides. One person's 4 rating is another persons 7, and vice-versa.

Going to a paid membership plan was the difference between keeping the site alive and taking it down completely. Todd and I both work 40+ hour day jobs. We were running out of steam in our personal/financial lives. I am not saying this for a pity party or to feel bad for us, blah blah blah. Anyone who owns a business knows the sacrifices made to keep it alive. Most importantly, we can finally pay our writers, which means more trails and more trail updates for the community.

I hope that clarifies some of the things going on in our world. We are so happy to have everyone on the site, paid or not. We tried to keep value in our free membership as best as we could while still differentiating the product enough for the paid membership folks. There is a lot more functionality in the works, so stay tuned! And if you ever have any questions/comments, please don't hesitate to reach out (you will get a response fairly quickly from myself or Todd - I am not super active on TW). https://www.trailsoffroad.com/feedback.

And come say HI if you ever see us out on the trails! :)

    Cheers!

    John

I've used their maps with the free Gaia app for my Samsung tab, works flawlessly. The maps and routes are on point.

@mtbjohn42 I'll happily trade you guys some loaded Dell R910 servers, or other server/networking equipment for a membership :-D That is if you're not using a hosting service that provides them for you.

I have been getting their emails for a while and the latest one said they were going to scout trails in Georgia. That prompted me to sign up for premium access since GA is right down the road from me.

I always felt guilty using your site without paying. I bought some merch a little while back to make myself feel better. I'll definitely be signing up for a membership.
