^LOL! I love it. Hey, you put your life on the line, you deserve some fringe benefits. Of course, law enforcement officers are trained to drive at speed but I would venture to say that very few of us civilians on this forum are.

We have a course called EVOC. Emergency Vehicle Operater`s Course.
You also have to talk on the radio.
Lots of orange cones go down on the skid pan.
In the very old days we drove Dodge Polera`s with the 440 Hemi Mag with progressive 4 bbls.
152 mph was accepentence. But some went faster.
    Most LEO`s today are civilians.
They are not subject under UCMJ. The Uniformed Code of Misscarried Justice.
    I am.

I generally drive 60-65 MPH on the DFW freeways and do fine- no tickets in 10 years. BUT, I have got two tickets in the last year.... one was 51 in a 30 and the other was 45 in a 30. These were both classic speed traps.... divided by median 4 lanes in a Denton county business district. Both times I didn't even realize I was speeding because there was no other traffic and 50ish felt reasonable and prudent for the conditions. A radar would have saved me both times I think. The cop was parked shooting radar behind some trees. I am probably buying the 9500i once I convince myself it is worth the very high price. I also would have to kill some little illegal alien or crack head if they broke into my Tacoma to get my radar. I think killing an illegal in texas is just a written warning the first time :D

The last ticket I was coming back from hunting... I had a Benelli 12 gauge laying on my passenger seat, was carrying a loaded 10mm in a holster on my waist and had a loaded 9mm in the center console. I have a CHL license so all of the officer could do was shake his head and kinda chuckle (they ask about guns when you get pulled over and show your CHL with your DL)

Way off topic but how do you like your 10mm (It's a glock?), ammo cost and control? I was thinking a sig in .357sig or a glock in 10mm or maybe a .40 in a sig or kimber.... I have a 9mm, .45acp, .357 in pistols and feel the .40 would round me off (.357 is a wheel gun the others are 1911).

Here is the website - good info. A former cop runs the site. A very well done site.

A friend of mine purchased the Beltronics Vector 955. He said it has saved him already a few times.
    Rated best unit under 200.00.

The 10mm is an equal opportunity destroyer whereas the 40 is pretty much tops for self defense against people. The Glock 20 10mm holds 15 rounds of 10mm. I shoot some nasty heavy Cor-Bon loads that can take down the biggest hog with a couple head shots or anything else with a death wish. Ted Nugent carries one as a back-up gun all over the world. Ammo cost is high but this isn't a gun I shoot that often. It is a big gun... a little much for concealed carry but I do it on occasion. The G20 or G29 is the ONLY option for a good 10mm.

With your current lot I'd go 10mm just get that little extra smile on your face when the big sucker fires (unless you want to hand cannon: 454 casull or 500 S&W). I have two 40s (Sig 229 and G23) as well as all of the others you listed. I sure look forward to shooting my 10mm more than any of the others! Honestly, that G20 is probably my favorite gun. I bought it after a run-in with a 350+ lbs wild pig that wanted a piece of me and my dog while hunting ducks.

My friend has the 9500, my brother has a valentine, I owned a valentine, and I have the RX65.

All of these are insane. Excellent protection.

My valentine was stolen, so I decided to get the RX65 instead. The Escort 9500 came out after I bought the RX65. So I am not sure which of these I would rather have.

My best friend has an Escort SRX, which is the best on the market. 360 degree bumper mounted sensors with jammers. That thing is way to sensitive though. I am sure you can turn down the sensitivity, but I wouldn't want to dumb down the performance.

Also the K50 (Brand?) is excellent as well.

The SRX and K50 are around 1500-2000 dollars, but are stealth so they work in all states.

Blah I bought one under the 30 day return policy and my god did it suck.

If you are going to use a detector make sure it is super high quality, or else you will just get yourself a ticket. Also take into account that cops can still give you probable speeding (I have been found guilty twice) and reckless driving.

Never rely on a detector 100%.

Exactly! It is other drivers that you have to watch out for. I almost killed someone the other day because I was going a little fast and they were going way to slow. Some car, I think it was a Camry decided that it is faster than my Mustang GT with 453 hp. So they hesitated whether to get over or not. Of course the camry gets over at the last second and I had abs on from stomping the brake pedal to the floor and heel toe downshifing. Fucking moron. Of course it would have been my fault that little Johnny was killed.

Speed limits are for a reason, to regulate the flow of traffic to make sure that cars are traveling at relatively the same speed. Or else people would be rear ending each other doing 90mph, because ever one thinks that they are the fastest car on the road.

Thats why only some parts of the autobahn have no speed limits and the rest of the road you have to go that exact speed or slower in the right hand lane.

Thats also why in Europe it takes several thousands of dollars and about a 100 hours of classes to get a license.

I'm not saying you should buy this one. Just for the people that are not sure what to buy. This is a good starting point for research. This website covers alot of info about radar detectors. It explains about all the radar bands and what they do.

I'm not saying you have to buy from this site. You may find better deals elsewhere. Just check out the radar detector info to help narrow down what meets your needs.

I have done research on all of the major models, I have looked at radarbusters, radar roy, etc...

The only three to mess with as I stated above are the Escort 9500i, Beltronics RX65 Pro, and the Valentine 1.

Which one better is all crap. I personally think the RX65 is the best, but it doesn't have the arrows which is annoying!!!

Like I said a group of my friends, family, and I all got together and did road tests on all of these models.

Me: Beltronics RX65 Pro/ Valentine 1 (Stolen) Conclusion: Happy, miss the arrows and wish that I had the GPS like on the 9500i, but Rx65 gives more warning

Dad: K50 Conclusion: Pricey, but stealth with excellent performance

Phil: SRX: Extremely pricey, but extreme performance, however way to sensitive thanks to the 360 degree sensors also needs the arrows!!

Denton: Valentine 1/ RX65 Happy with both arrows are nice but RX65 better performance, Valentine 1 however has the arrows and the 2nd display unit

Jake: 9500i happy loves the GPS

a couple of others as well.

Like I said I tested some cheaper ones like the best for under $200 and they sucked balls.

Where did you find the best price for the RX65?
    How much?

I have looked at that one. I'm in the market. I guess I will use my Gov funded(taxpayer funded, with the gov's name on it) rebate check for a radar detector.

My Cobra crapped out after just over a year. And of course it would come on and look normal. Until I got pulled over & the damn thing never went off. Luckily I just got a warning(first time ever, I usually get the ticket) Piece of crap!

Bill Wilson made me 1 of 1 and 2 of 2.
I was in a hurry last week and the Taco will peg 120. Perhaps more. That is what I saw.
Now this is not smart. I went today to the VA, at 55 to 60, enjoyed the lush new spring growth, did my mirroror and insturment scans at my own good time and had a great trip. I actually used most of the spare hour.
I actually thought about kiicking a cop SUV out of my way with my push bars and lights. Too stressed out. I later saw the cop at the cop shop and he asked me,"Was that you behind me?" I sad yupper, but it won`t happen again.
200 MPH does not seem fast to me. So I enjoyed the loafing.

I dont know where you drive but in some state you can get a ticket for even having a radar detector. Doesnt even matter if your using it.

    http://www.theallineed.com/family/06030909.htm

As for the 10 over talk.....I wish. Even 5 will get you a ticket around here.

I am not a traffic cop. I do read the LE Mags.
In SO Cal if you are not doing 85 the CHP will run over you. But they have stuff that I have not heard of now.
Blend in with the traffic. The loner gets picked off.

We have EVOC here in Oregon too, I suppose it's the same name in multiple states. Are you saying you can't use a detector in your state? Yikes.

FWIW, "Laser" is controlled by the FDA, therefore Laser-jammers are NOT illegal. RADAR jammers are.
