The 2017 Tacoma we bought came with a levelling or lift kit on it. Just from looking, I,d say maybe 2" in the back and 3" in the front. The back just has a basic block under the leafs but the front looks like this. Anyone know much about it?

Oh okay. I know nothing about Tacoma suspensions. So if thats a 1.5" spacer, where does the other 1.5" go to give it 3"?

My honest answer is that I don't know exactly how it works to give you double the amount of lift. I just know from experience that it is double the thickness of the spacer. Sorry

Lemme give this a shot. One side is fixed pivot, if you move the end of the lower control arm say 3 inches then the halfway point of that control arm has moves 1.5 inches.

Now for the standard shpeel, spacer lifts are a bad idea very bad, just do it right the first time. Cheap way is Billie-OME combo, Billie is an extended shock and you achieve lift by installing a longer spring. If you want more info I know there are topics pinned explaining just this.

But for wheeling, bad idea less articulation and I’ve seen pics of shock damage that implies spacer use

If you do, I would go Bilstein over OME shocks on this truck...been there

If you rally your shit and don't adjust the bump stop, that spacer turns your coilover into a bump stop, and it will end up looking like this...

I definitely agree that you can get more performance out of 5100s than a spacer but I'm pretty sure full extension of the 5100 is identical to the stock shocks. When I was installing my 5100s they were the same length when lying on the ground

Doesn't this only happen hitting jumps or sudden drop offs at full speed?

That’s one of three or four pictures floating around this site that are used to scare people. You could go for a lifetime of normal everyday driving with spacers installed and never snap a strut like that.

Or this. Spacer lifts suck. Good luck with that.
