June and I’m looking for a good dog harness for my Husky Daisy as I would like to securely hold her down in my tailgate while transporting her to the dog park and other adventures for camping! It’s mainly for the times she shedding crazy and don't want her in the cab. I do have the belt extension for when she’s in the cab but would like something to hold her securely outside during those mentioned times. Thanks everyone for your future input!!

Most people I know use a dog crate and secure that into the bed of the truck.

I have a Gunner Kennel. We use it indoors for his nightly sleeping routine. When we are out hiking, it goes into the back of the truck. It fits perfectly under my Max Modular Hi rack as well. Solidly built kennel, has lashing points and double push locks on the doors as well as a key lock. Have a Large size for Enzo, he's about 80 lbs.

My dogs always ride in the truck but in my old truck I mounted a tie down shackle in the center of the bed floor. Used that with a short lead extending from it to a harness. That way the dog couldnt get over the sides but could still lay down etc. Never really liked him in the bed but he would get really muddy sometimes and that was the solution.

the concensus around here is dogs ride in the cab. my husky HATES being in the cab, so she rides in the bed.

normally for short truck rides, she gets harnessed in. for longer car rides ill strap down her kennel and throw her bed in there. ill have to take a pic, but her truck bed harness is something i made. its basically a three point harness. one point ties into the middle of the front bed rail, second ties into the tiedown on the side of the bed, and third goes to her kong harness. its long enough that she can lay down, peek over the side, and stretch her legs. but short enough that she cant run around the bed or jump out. not that ive ever had a problem with her jumping out, you just never know. since i got the softopper, lucky for her now, she always has shade.

It would be great if you can send a picture of how it looks! How do you like your softopper? Thinking of getting one that or the other brand... my husky is kind of the same she just wants to move around constantly so I figure something that can keep her secure in the bed would be the best for her! As she loves the wind in through her fur!

Fontana gets hot. Those dogs get hot. I would keep her in a crate in the cab. Keep it as small as possible in case you get in accident.

For 14 years I swapped the cap for lumber racks in the spring and fall but when I bought my house in '03 it came with a Siberian Husky named Buck. For the next 10 years it was rack only year round. I used a length of 1" tubular webbing with a loop knot centered between the front verticals and another 2' length to her harness(yes, her, Buck, named for the dog in Jack London's "Call Of The Wild", rescued as a puppy in an Eskimo village in Alaska and brought back to Ca hence the name). The harness d-ring was between her shoulders and the 2' length allowed her enough slack to peek around the cab and get her freeway facial but not enough to get her body out of the well. In cold or wet weather she stayed in the cab but otherwise was in the back. I kept some plywood permanently attached to the rack for shade in the summers which are fortunately mild and added more shade as needed. When in the cab she would "tell me" to open the window by looking at me, then staring at the button on the armrest.

Kurgo makes a crash rated harness and different mount points for the harness. I use it

I'd be worried my dog would try to jump out with a harness on. I'd also rec Gunner Kennels. They aren't giving them away, but they're built to last a lifetime.

Ruff Tough Kennels for both of my dogs, with Mud River insulated cover.

Ruffwear makes good harnesses. Started with these for both dogs, but after Remus outgrew it I picked one of these up ... which handles a 100lb ridgeback just fine.

I have BAMF tie downs installed, and one of these hooked to it for short trips. Having a cap is essential for dogs, IMO.

Funny thing is my dog actually did jump out with his harness on, luckily I was parked at the dog park, but he was just dangling there out the window like nothing happened. It was a pain to get him out of that situation but the only damage to him or the truck was a couple scratches on my door
