I just got Mobtowns (with kickouts) and am in the process of painting them and they are in fact 70 lbs each side. They are the bomb which is what I wanted.

I know, right? They didn't know the actual weight of the sliders, just the shipping weight, which could just be the dimensional weight. I may pull the trigger.

...Fuck it, I just ordered the MBRP's. The price was right, already powder coated, free shipping, $577. OTD. I have a good feeling about the weight. There is minimal material, other than the main tubes, gotta be lighter than most. I will weigh them when they arrive.

really looking forward to hearing about 'em and i'll probably get those if the report is solid. i just looked back at Mobtown's aluminum... too bad i don't have another life to mortgage, right? so nice but well over $1000. and i'm sure they're actually worth it, too.

Yeah, I was looking at those aluminum sliders. The price is a joke. Their excuse is the material is more expensive. I used to build mountain bike frames. Total BS, unless they are using something really exotic.

He also said he needed to buy another die for his bender and they take twice as long to weld up. I like them a lot, but couldn't justify that price. I'll be real curious to see what you think abut the sliders you got though, post an update when you put them on.

Interesting. Could also be a typo / mistake about the "two boxes" part considering @Deucer01 called and got "official" word that it was 60lbs total:
I think someone is gonna have to bust out a bathroom scale when their sliders arrive... :p

Back to the 2 piece part... it looks to be set up in such a way that there's no real area where it could cause a "weak spot," just another dose of clever engineering to cut down on shipping costs.

Also... if it really bothers you that much? :welder:

Seriously- once you have 'em there's no reason you can't take 'em to a competent welder who can grind down the powdercoat, zap a bead around there and boom, you've got your two pieces permanently affixed.

I think he called mbrpexhauststore.com, which is just a dealer in Texas. MBRP in Canada sent me a packing list PDF, when I asked how much the sliders weigh, and there are two boxes weighing 55lbs each.

...I sure hope mbrpexhauststore.com sends me both boxes on my order.

good luck with that. I'm just hoping these are 60 for the pair. i realize that's not hardcore for wheeling, but i don't ever hardcore wheel and i don't want the weight. but i do want mild protection beyond steps and these are right if not 120lbs for the pair. super curious about the outcome.

    Same here.

...I will be happy if they are 100lbs or lighter.

Just bought the OCF sliders myself. $578 shipped is too good to pass up.

It’s not a joke. Please source the materials needed and get back to me when you can do better on price. We told everyone from day 1 they were going to be 30-40% more than our steel sliders.

These are faaaaaaaaar from a mountain bike frame. We lifted a 4500lb truck off the ground on one side and they flexed no more than our steel sliders.

We’re using 1/4 thick wall tubing, 1/4” thick plate, 1/2” grade 8 hardware and using a grade of aluminum that can be mandrel bent in a wall thickness and diameter that we are using is hard to find and not cheap.

The die for the machine is one of the cheapest parts of the whole endeavor. I’ve spent over 30 hours with design and r & d and spent over $500 just in materials building the prototype set for proof of concept.

Mobtown knows their stuff. Out of all the bolt-ons out there I would trust mobtown's to take the harshest beatings you could imagine. There is a difference between supporting the truck on a high lift and dropping the truck onto an obstacle. Mobtown will take the heat. I can't comment on their pricing because I don't source the material, but they do not strike me as a place just out to gouge people for a substandard product.

That said Mobtown's steel is also very heavy, and for my build I just can't justify the weight (which is why I'm getting all nitpicky over shipping weights). 73 pounds is an attractive number but I'm also not able to spend that much money at this point.

Out of curiosity though... what about galvanic corrosion? I mean, these frames are already pretty notorious for having issues without 73 pounds of anode bolted on and driven through harsh conditions... :notsure:

I wasn't comparing mountain bikes to rock sliders. I just happen to be familiar with tubing costs. Aluminum tubing for a mountain bike frame can be very expensive, if it's something other than 6061 "screen door" aluminum. That's mostly due to each tubeset being custom butted for each frame size and heat treated. Straight wall aluminum tubing tends to be very cheap. What are you using?

Your square and round tubing are 5052 with 0.25" wall thickness?
