If it was a couple hundred bucks to fix, only a fool sells a vehicle that can't even be smogged and licensed until repaired. I have a feeling the seller has a pretty good idea it'll cost a lot more then that to pass which is why he says he'll raise the price if he fixes it before he sells. Who would tell the world that he'll raise the price in the first place for a supposed ''cheap easy '' fix? It's a supposed O2 sensor, not a transmission replacement.

What he is doing is giving himself an out if it sells and it turns out to be something much more expensive and involved.

 

Why not look a little harder for a 4x4?

You'd have to be absolutely crazy to buy that thing unless you were looking for something to trailer to the desert for racing and trailer back home.

 

Is it even legal in California to sell a on road licensed vehicle that falls under applicable smog laws if it can't/doesn't pass testing?
