Realistically how much does a CNC shop charge for something like this?

 

Tough one, maybe $100 in materials and $4-500 labor. Not sure

 

That's seems crazy cheap right?

But yeah it's hard to tell. Might give a local shop a call and see what they'd charge.

 

Most places put a premium on their products so if you went to a local fab shop I cant see them adding a ton of BS charges on it.

 

I'm building my rack now..I might take some ideas from this one.

 

You had better be prepared to mass produce whatever rack you make. Just sayin.

After looking at material costs on places like mcmastercarr and talking with a local fan shop I estimate there is $800 of materials there and probably another $500+ in labor

I have a cage design in cad now that's very unique...stay tuned. Need the patent first

 

$800 in material????!!!! You must be looking at Aluminum

 

Nope...he's got 2 different tube diameters on that cage and some flat stock. Keep in mind you have to buy a min pipe length.

 

Ya thats a good point, we have to buy steel in huge sheets. Though, if I was a fab shop I wouldnt charge someone for the excess materials. Sure I have to buy a minimum but would still prorate aterial because I will use the excess on other projects

 

Yeah, I just built a tiny bumper for my Outlander and I was @ $120 bucks with very little material. Some flat stock, some angle steel, a little bit of 16ga plate, etc.

I could very easily see at least 5-600 bucks worth of steel here.

 

So I see 2-3 steel pipes here, how much does that run? Hes got maybe 12 feet of the small tube and maybe 20 feet of the larger?

EDIT: Even at $10/ft you are in only a couple hundred. Whats the price for steel tubing like this?

 

McMaster is very expensive vs. basically anywhere else. They have the convenience of having everything you would ever need though.
