Bought my 09 a few months ago. This is under the dash, left of the steering column.

    Thanks in advance

The only way to know for sure is follow the wiring back to the source.

It looks similar to one of those keychain led flashlights. Can't tell from the pic, but are there wires running into it?

Looks like a broken off key. Does your truck have aftermarket remote start installed? Since our keys are chipped/transponder keys, one of the easier ways to defeat that security feature is to put an extra key near the remote start system.

Goes to aftermarket alarm. Most likely the valet button.

Its the PEC switch. (passenger ejection control)

Its part of the alarm system and a really stupid place to install it.
My FJ has it located in the same place and has been ripped off a couple times by my right foot.
So far the Tacoma has survived this foot attack but I feel its only a matter of time before it encounters a sneak attack from down low and rips itself like breaking up two dogs mating.

It's part of the shitty slave alarm that dealers install on their vehicles. It's bullshit that they just screw that thing right through the dash, I almost didn't buy my truck because of it.
